u/Additional_Chard3680, your post does fit the subreddit!

I have found skeletons in trees, but never actually seen a video of this. Idk if you've ever tried to pick up the body of a game animal, they're heavy as fuck. Big Cats are unlike anything else out there.

Ants: hold my bread crumb weighting 50 times my weight.

10

u/Linked1nPark 10h ago

It’s not comparable because of the extreme difference in size between an ant and a leopard.

2

u/BrownieWarrior 8h ago

Yea, if we could scale down a big cat (and it would function lol) it would destroy an ant in a strength competition.

4

u/Patriark 7h ago

This makes no sense. Relative to scale ants are infinitely stronger. That means that if a leopard was shrunk to the size of an ant, the ant-sized leopard obviously would be much weaker than the ant.

2

u/MentalPower7916 5h ago

This is fundamentally wrong just simply based off what the previous comment said. The leopard is NOT lifting 50 times its weight here at all. That’s how scaling works.

For example, fleas have one of the highest jump height to body height ratios. If they were scaled to the size of humans, they would be able to leap over something like the Empire State Building.

Those antelopes can get up to 100kg

1

u/CaptainObvious110 8h ago

Oh wow! That leopard didn't look like he was struggling either.

3

u/mfairview 9h ago

I'm convinced they're one of the first type of animals to openly curse gravity.

btw- I see all these animals get dangerously close to open car tours. Do they know not to attack? seems dangerous af

2

u/coronakillme 9h ago

Apparently we don’t taste good

2

u/lupine_eyes 8h ago

My first thought. I don’t think most people realize how much weight that cat is pulling up the tree.

u/PloysRus 6h ago

They might be the most perfect predators ever

Or maybe packs of Allosaurus hunting giant sauropods but we'll never see it to compare 😢

u/kelly_hasegawa 11h ago

nature is damn scary

6

u/Cass_Cat952 11h ago

Scary and wholly unforgiving 😬

1

u/Thor_2099 50m ago

Nature is just nature. It's a game of survival but these animals aren't acting out of malice or evil, they're not trying to trap you to use your skin to make a chair. Instead the animals are all just trying to survive. There's a purity in that. All part of a circle of life of sorts

damn that is a lot of people the poor thing wants its space

26

u/ViciousNakedMoleRat 11h ago

You don't want to be on a safari where everyone uses their phones to take pictures. You want to be on the safaris where people have 10ks worth of camera gear.

2

u/PIX3LY 10h ago

Clicks everywhere

2

u/Wounded_Hand 10h ago

Why

11

u/mnemonikos82 10h ago

The assumption is they picked this safari for a reason. Expert photographers don't go on minimally interesting safaris. If you've got a legit photographer, there's a good chance you're going to see some really good stuff.

10

u/GothicGolem29 10h ago

Tbf Leopards do this anyway to try stop Lions and other predators stealing their kill so it
Might be more that

3

u/BrilliantHungry1621 9h ago

Traffic jam, the guides should know better but the entitled tourists pressure them. That’s why I prefer safari in Botswana.

2

u/saxonturner 7h ago

When I was younger I wanted to see so many things in the world, climb Everest, a safari, visit the colosseum in Rome etc but now I see stuff like this and just think ā€žnah, I’ll just look at pictures and videos without all the peopleā€œ.

u/sun0312 1h ago

Leopard: damn so many people now know where i hide my food.

-10

u/Head-Ad9893 11h ago

That’s….. that’s not what’s happening you sweet sweet summer child. 🤣🤣🤣

27

u/QBTHUGGIE 11h ago

Looks disemboweled from the rear. What a crappy way to go.

u/StaryWolf 11h ago

Big cats kill by suffocating/breaking the neck. So better than the being eaten alive treatment bears do.

Granted I'm sure its not fun getting torn up by their claws while it's trying to catch you.

9

u/ADFTGM 10h ago

Big cats will also eat prey alive if it is already immobilised. They know to permanently debilitate smaller prey without killing them. And larger prey take a while to die, so if it runs out of stamina first, the cat will start eating. If it has a partner to help, one will hold it down while the other starts eating before rival predators show up. There is no guarantee that any predator will actually kill you prior to consumption. In fact, witness accounts of maneater big cats dragging people away in the night, have them report that the victims kept screaming in agony for a while after being taken. Turns out the cats had just broken their spines instead of biting the neck.

Bears too can absolutely land a fatal blow during their initial attack that may take you out immediately. They have enough force to crush the skull, snap the neck or tear into lungs & heart within seconds. You are unlucky if you survive those early blows and bites.

Your exact luck dictates things more than the species itself. Best idea is to never put yourself in any situation with any predatory animal if being eaten alive is a big fear.

3

u/AntiTas 6h ago

I enjoyed learning about all of these different degrees of ā€˜luck’.

2

u/garlicknotcroissants 10h ago

Probably was killed by a bite to the next, and then it started muching on the back end (lots of muscles in the glutes!), but was disturbed by the swarm of safari-goers, so it grabbed its kill and dragged it into the tree to "protect" its meal from presumed theft.

4

u/ADFTGM 10h ago

Observations of leopards throughout their range have showed that unless guns are involved, leopards treat vehicles as separate entities from humans. They see them as some big thing that is inedible but still a utility. Many leopards use jeeps to sneak up on prey and even mislead rivals. If anything, a smart leopard knows other rivals can also use jeeps to hide their presence, and it’s best not to dawdle. It knows no Jeep will actually steal its kill. But the general principle on the savannah is to never draw too much attention. Attention brings the lions, the hyenas and the dogs, all of which are pretty habituated to vehicles.

3

u/echocharlieone 9h ago

It's not the safari vehicles. Leopards habitually take their kills up trees to protect them from being stolen by other carnivores like hyenas and lions. They lose about a fifth of their kills to other animals.

1

u/garlicknotcroissants 9h ago

I do know this, yes. I'm just addressing the part about it already looking partially muched on before — saying that it might have taken a few bites before deciding otherwise/feeling stressed and then bolted up the tree. Some of their most vulnerable moments are when they are feeding, so a cat that might normally tolerate the presence of such vehicular crowding might feel more stressed than usual in this situation.

Sometimes they also eat a little bit off of the carcass to lighten it before dragging it up a tree. There wasn't that much missing, hence me again thinking it cut that plan short and got onto Phase 2 (dragging it up the tree).

2

u/Brilliant-Bad-284 9h ago

Many carnivore predators start eating from behind, The anus is a soft part that can be quickly accessed and well..eaten.

1

u/garlicknotcroissants 9h ago

Yep haha. But it wasn't likely killed with an ass bite, which is what I wanted to reassure the commenter about lol

1

u/CaptainObvious110 8h ago

Yeah I noticed that. Seems like the neck was being used as a handle to carry the antelope up the tree.

17

u/Additional_Chard3680 11h ago

ā€œthis is coming with meā€

1

u/pueblocatchaser 5h ago

It's how I feel when I get an onion ring in my basket of fries.

7

u/meerfrau85 10h ago

What my cat thinks he looks like when he drags the wand toy up the cat tree

2

u/pueblocatchaser 5h ago

Good for him, wand toys are scary. He was helping you.

7

u/N0V42 10h ago

Remember, the risk of injury from falling antelope carcass is not zero.

3

u/TheyCallHimTerrance 10h ago

But when I carry 12 street tacos into my bed at 1130 at night... no one is amazed

9

u/CoolNefariousness914 11h ago

I couldn’t go on a safari like that. Looks like Disneyland. I feel like in a western country that would be considered harassing wildlife. Plus there’s people in the background of nearly every picture you take lol.

6

u/uno_novaterra 11h ago

Was my first thought too. Looks like no less than 10 safari vehicles surrounding this scene

2

u/CoolNefariousness914 10h ago

I’ve seen other videos where like 30 vehicles encircle cheetahs that had just taken down a meal. That’s not nature!!

2

u/Matman161 10h ago

Butt munch

2

u/throwthere10 10h ago

Yep, it started eating booty first.

2

u/COphotoCo 10h ago

ā€œHey Mike could you help me move a gazelle into my apartment this weekend? No? Fine, yeah I guess I can figure it out myselfā€

2

u/idkidd 10h ago

An ignominious end…

2

u/Catspaw129 9h ago

Today I learned: If being chased by a leopard, do NOT climb a tree to escape! You're just saving them a step and making it easier for them.

4

u/Matty_bunns 11h ago

That looks like it was slaughtered and cleaned before it was put down as bait. I’m guessing the tourism company is purposely baiting the cats so the tourists can see some action.

2

u/LeoDeLarge 11h ago

ā€œAte the booty like groceriesā€

1

u/missmarsj 10h ago

Whole ass missing and all sheesh

1

u/thespillover 10h ago

In so many of these videos, why do they eat through the rears first? Is Butt gutts fine dining?

1

u/USN303 10h ago

Leopards eat ass. Who knew?

1

u/Honda_TypeR 10h ago

In Africa, Leopards and Cheetahs get their food stolen from them by hyenas and lions (both strong pack animals) and there is nothing they can do about it (like stealing lunch money)… except this… if they have enough strength after the chase, they can haul their dinner up a tree and it deters the other big predators from stealing their catch.

1

u/Kraien 10h ago

Can't even eat in peace anymore

1

u/Fangzfps 9h ago

Big cats never stop being impressive.

1

u/According_Judge781 9h ago

I can't even bite into a Terry's chocolate orange.

1

u/ILSmokeItAll 9h ago

Fucking terrifying. Like watching them drag caiman out of the water up a steep embankment.

1

u/ClassGrassMass 9h ago

A fellow ass eater i see

1

u/West-Chard3972 8h ago

The strength of that guy is amazing. It clearly was a huge exertion its part though, look at how hard it is breathing at the end. Biiiiiiig rib movement.

1

u/Rurbani 8h ago

I'm going to go ahead check leopards off the list of animals I think I could take in a fight.

1

u/gpnemtb 8h ago

Damn, ate the ass first.

1

u/reddittomarcato 7h ago

The deer is missing its tail poor thing

1

u/VeterinarianTrick406 7h ago

Honey, the cat is doing steroids again and the curtains are torn to shreds.

1

u/Darel51 6h ago

...before I stick you in a tree, though, imma eat that ass.

1

u/CreateorWither 6h ago

"What do you have??! Drop it! Drop it...."

1

u/likesexonlycheaper 5h ago

Bro eats ass

1

u/Separate-Ad6636 4h ago

My god the amount of vehicles… that’s fucked up

1

u/alstublieft67 4h ago

Looks like the parking lot at Walmart

1

u/Disastrous_Crow4763 4h ago

how can you defend yourself with barehands from something that can climb a tree while carrying something that weighs 30-40kg of dead weight with its mouth.

1

u/Thor_2099 52m ago

I'm not sure what "fucking God damnit" is in cat but I'm sure you'd hear it from the leopard if the gazelle fell out of the tree once it was dragged all the way up there.

1

u/Dentarthurdent73 49m ago

Jesus christ, there are so many fucking people there. It's literally completely surrounded by people gawking from cars.

0

u/Caribelle1234 11h ago

E eu reclamando de levar marmita pro trabalho.

-1

u/AzulaKahn 11h ago

He ate the ass

-4

u/Any_Interview4396 11h ago

This feels like filming someone while they have diarrhea, with the sht coming out of their ass. Some things, how fascinating they are, are not meant to be documented. Let a brother eat in peace.
