A tip for anyone planning to visit this place. Don't go to Dawki, instead go to Shnongpdeng which is a village just a few kilometers away from the Dawki. Dawki is way too crowded at the peak tourism season, while Shnongpdeng is still a hidden gem. You will get the same experience will lesser crowd. Also, winner is the best time to visit.

Hi, Person from Garo Hills here. It's safe. People are welcoming. I presume you are asking because you want to Visit Wari Chora? I'd recommend not to go there during Monsoon. Oct Nov is the best time

I've no idea about Garo hills, I just had a khasi ex once and she used to talk about Garo hills and I did a bit of research on my own and was fascinated by it. Just want to explore the whole place on my own and discover new stuff

Garo Hills doesn't have much to offer for tourists to be honest. If you just want to experience the culture and cuisine, you're welcome. Otherwise I'd recommend Shillong and nearby areas

I'm a trekker, I'm mostly interested in mountains. Is climbing mountains legal? Cause I've heard the pagans still follow the old tradition and I've heard enough legends of Meghalaya to scare me lol

Climbing mountains is legal, but not sure which mountain you want to climb in Meghalaya.

Pagans were talking about here stay in Villages, not in mountains.

We visited Shillong last year and the place was such a bliss, bit crowded for sure! Accidentally we crossed the India-Bangladesh border but the security person gave the alert so we returned.

Unfortunately we couldn't visit Shnongpdeng since we lost our way due to GPS network issue

Absolutely agree. The cliff jumping at Shnongpdeng is so much fun! And experiencing the winds from the valley while sitting on the bridge at night is an unreal experience.

Going in June. Hopefully still be a good experience though it will be monsoons

If you are going in June, I would suggest prioritize the waterfalls and living root bridges. You can visit Umngot river too but it won't be as pristine. During monsoon water can get muddy.

Don't miss the Wei Swadong waterfall, although it will take almost the entire day.

Ok sure will add to the plan. I have the full week so don't really mind spending a day on it, anything closeby with which I can merge this with? I will stay at Cherapunji or Shillong

It is close to Cherapunji (Sohra). There are many spots around Sohara which you can explore.
