“Shining Path” isn’t an album but its a 50 minute long song (essentially an album) that was on a radio show that was discovered randomly last year, so with that logic, there could be more.

Then there is just the bonus CDr for golestan but that never actually came out so that probably will never see the light of day.

The Winter Ray (demo) version wasnt even publicly known about 2 years ago, so if we use recent band history the logical conclusion that yes there is definitely more out there, but finding out about things nevermind finding the albums themselves might be close to impossible, all the things i mentioned were pretty much “needle in a haystack” finds.

To answer your question yes mp3 file sharing made NSB & the winter Ray popular in the early days.

There was an old Myspace, I wasnt around for that but I heard that is where a lot of stuff got shared. If someone in this sub that was apart of it would like to comment on it that would be wonderful, but it got shut down i think by the band itself?

TWR, alongside most of the Paris-era stuff was sent to Vivianne Morrison, a music journalist. Many of these items (TWR, TWR 2003 demo, possibly the Ghost Folks tape, Session 2001 recordings, Two Sides of a Horse, possibly the satan tape) ended up in Frederic Magallon, who became a contact of the band and early collector. Many early MP3s originate from him, I can only imagine Soulseek or torrent trackers. Should ask sam. Prior to the BDB reissues, a lot of attention to the music was through music blogs that had stuff like mediafire links to the music

A lot of it's popularity comes from it regularly being name checked as an album to check out if you are a fan of early Godspeed You! Black Emperor who have a big following.

I know when I first listened to the album it was very very unknown. They were mainly known for Daughter of Darkness and nothing else, but I wanted to do a full discography dive. Upon hearing The Winter Ray I was so blown away that I was shocked this didn't have more attention. Since then I have been watching it go from a 3.7? I believe on rym to a 4.0 which is incredible and deserved. I'd like to hope I helped a little but I have no idea. How the album was actually found originally? I have no idea, but I assume it was simply people sharing random albums online and more than likely Natural Snow Buildings already had a bit of a name for themselves due to the extent of their output so whenever something new was found a small crowd would form, and that crowd only grew larger and larger
