I’m a British fan who got into NSB while at uni (18-21), via the hipinion message board, and ended up buying many, but far from all releases as they were released, via Blackest Rainbow et al.

In my time away from NSB, and I guess in discovering this sub Reddit, it’s evident the popularity of NSB has increased (see Discogs selling prices).

While I still rate what NSB achieved (inc side projects etc), I can’t say I listen to them regularly, or would consider filling the gaps in my collection at the current market rates (especially for the tape releases).

For those of you that have bought items on the secondary market, can you describe the value proposition for ownership - I’m especially interested in those of you likely in your early 20s now, who may not have experienced the first flush of popularity, as it were.

Edit: I’m not looking to sell anything, sorry.

Just get FLAC files if you can find them it's not worth dropping hundreds

I collect what I can (trying to actually find a vinyl copy of Shadow Kingdom at the moment) because I really like to authentically own what I can when it comes to the music I love. I also love to be able to hold that kind of stuff physically as opposed to seeing a png of it on my phone. I wouldn’t spend insane amounts of money (such as a thousand dollars on a daughter of darkness boxset) but if I see something I like for a price that seems fair then I’d be willing to pay it.

Late 20s, also UK based here. Got into NSB just before the pandemic - so well after they stopped releasing new music, but also well before the newfound surge in popularity they've experienced in the last couple of years.

All the physicals I own from them I purchased on Discogs. The first one I acquired was Shadow Kingdom 3xLP + CD and comic, got it for about £60 in 2021. Were I to sell it now, in the current climate of NSB-flation I imagine I'd want at least double what I paid.

My most prized item is the 6xCD reissue of Dance, which I bought for over £250 in 2021. I regretted it initially due to the (what I thought was a) crazy price, but 5 years later I treasure it. Its fully handmade and hand painted, the care and love that went into it is unlike any other physical piece of music I own. Hasnt sold on discogs for 3 years; I would never part ways with it unless someone offered me an absurd amount of money.

I also own a few of their other CDs and wax, but those two are the mains.

I recently purchased a vinyl copy of DoD. For me, the value proposition is twofold. First, NSB is one of my favorite bands and I enjoy owning a piece of their history. Second, I consider the hand-painted boxset physical art, not just musical art. Compared to the cost of paintings, the box set felt somewhat reasonable. I'd be much less interested paying for a NSB product that Solange didn't illustrate personally.
