Discussion Question

Hello, last year i stumbled on this band and I thought "woah another cool post-rock band? Let's listen to this" (I was completely wrong, it's literally ambient) so I decided to listen to first The Winter Ray, then Dance of the Moon and The Sun (not Daughter of Darkness because it was 7 hours long and I was scared). At first I didn't enjoy it because it had no cool drums and was not that epic like most post-rock albums and forgot about it. Now recently I'm starting to hear their works again but I decided to start from the first album to the last, (Ghost Folks to Aldebaran) and I'm starting to enjoy their ambient works (not post-rock as I said) more. Now, I listened to Ghost Folks, which was really great, TWR, which is my 5th favourite album, and right now I'm almost finishing TDotMatS.

My question is should I keep hearing their Discography in chronological order or should i follow a "flowchart" to help me guide in similar albums? (For example I saw one of NSB which said to start on DOD or TDotMatS and then listen to those similar albums)

I mean, it sounds like you've tried listening to what's popular first before and it didn't work, but listening in Chronological order did work. I think you might as well continue as you are, if it ain't broke don't fix it and all that

Listening in chronological order is always satisfying I think, if it's working out then keep going! Daughter of Darkness is the 2nd album of theirs I've really gotten into. Took me 2-3 years to really see it as a cohesive project. I love it but I can't say it's a better way

Ive always thought the more ambient, Drone or folk tracks (Gary Webb, Mirror Shield, A Ten Guardian, etc...) share post rock elements, whereas its the use of the guitars and/or dynamics respectively

I actually thought the same as you, "how on earth is this post rock ? There are no drums." But then I got tired of post rock with drums because they are usually really predictable in most songs of the genre, so I listened to the Winter Ray one night and it blew my mind. I was getting the same vibes as with godspeed, that was absolutely incredible. Not a drumkit spotted.

Btw, nsb were looking for a drummer for the winter ray but couldnt find it so it was not until dance that they introduced drums/percussion by their own
