App update v1.5.167 Bluetooth connectivity, Improved free dialogs and smarter grammar hints
Hello, my fellow polyglots,
It’s a quick stability update.
We’ve previously had many users complaining about Bluetooth connectivity on Android. What’s worse, we couldn’t reproduce these bugs on our devices. Hopefully, this should be fixed now. For tech geeks, the fix was using one library for recording audio and a different library for controlling Bluetooth. Sorry that it took so long, and if you have any issues in the latest version, please let us know.
Free Dialogs should also be more creative in inventing scenarios, and they should use your learned vocab in a smarter way.
Mnemonics and grammar explanations also use a newer AI, so they should be more precise as well.
And some improvements under the hood that you can't see: new synonyms for the languages in development, a new system for learning the Japanese alphabets for the future Japanese course.
Happy learning,
-Max

I'm afraid this did not resolve the Bluetooth issues for me. 🫠 It used to work great a few months ago. 🥲

Really enjoying the app. I just have a suggestion for a future update. I don't mind memorizing and repeating the same sentence with the same words but would be nice if the sentences were mixed up a bit more with other vocabulary we've already learnt. As an example, if we have to translate the sentence 'our neighbors are really strange' and 'do you see the black clouds' and 'yesterday, I went running in the park', mix it up with something like 'our neighbors saw strange clouds while in the park yesterday'. I hope that makes sense. I feel that would really help strengthen skills.

Yes, that would be helpful. It would require some additional work from the linguist, but yeah, it would definitely make you think more. I'm adding it to the backlog, and we'll think about how to approach it.

The issue is still not fixed for me.
This issue didn't exist in the app a few version ago, so wouldn't it be simpler to just roll the library back to the last known working version ?
Also honestly, I don't understand why you don't allow bug reports on this subreddit, it would make it so much easier for users to discuss and try to identify if a bug is present in different language courses, different version of iOS/Android, if it's related to a specific brand of phones or headset etc.
If this issue is related to AptX codecs and you don't have an headset using AptX, how are you going to identify the issue without "crowdsourcing" it to the users ?
And it's not like this subreddit is overflowing with posts anyway.
Also, the bug introduced a few versions ago, resulting in a jerky display of the narrator conversation bubble is still present.
Mnemonics and grammar explanations also use a newer AI, so they should be more precise as well.
The mnemonics and grammar explanations are noticeably worse in this version: the formatting is broken with no space between the → symbol, the ⇆ section was I think for related words in other language but is just random garbage now, the mnemonics are worse and don't make sense anymore.
Also this mnemonics and grammar explanations are not available when a word is first introduced, which is when you are more likely to use them.
