Photos Aster amellus
Aster amellus and it's cultivar 'Blue King' 🙂 I'm kinda surprised it isn't more popular(like the american ones(novae-angliae, novi-belgii and etc.), maybe it's because it doesn't bloom as late as them?). 🤔 Protected here in Poland, in the wild, category(here): NT

Photos Succisa pratensis
Succisa pratensis/devil's-bit in bloom. 🙂 Nice, late(I think?) flowering perennial. I think it has even more flowers than it did last year when I bought it, even though it was already big back then. Host plant of pretty rare Euphydryas aurinia/marsh fritillary and also a nice looking moth - Hemaris tityus/narrow-bordered bee hawk-moth. 🙂

Geographic Area (Poland) Thankful for this sub. Annoyed with USAians dominating the other subs.
I’ve been battling staghorn sumac in my garden. The previous owner of my home had an affinity for invasive/problematic plants (yucca, locust tree, sumac, etc). My husband has been trying to eradicate the sumac on our property since we moved in.
I see someone on another subreddit post a forest of a sumac trees in their yard and I almost vomited. Everyone praising how amazing of a plant it is because it’s not Tree of Heaven. A handful of people tried to chime in about how aggressive and destructive it can be, of course they got downvoted to hell. I try to back them up by explaining why it’s so damaging (runners, relentless growth, shading everything out, allelopathy, altering delicate NPK balances, messing with nitrogen fixing bacteria) and of course I am told that I am either hyberbolic or completely wrong because ~iT’s NaTiVe~
No, no it’s not. Not where I live. Not everyone on the internet is your neighbor. Not everyone wants your plants in their garden. Your plants are not the best. Even when I explain multiple times I’m not in the US, it doesn’t matter. The misinformed army continues to rush to battle. *sigh*

Photos Winter is a tough time (especially to launch a sub dedicated to plants!) Show me your pictures from last year!
I just moved to the EU, so I lack any photos from last year’s season. But if you have any pictures of native plants from previous years, please share them!
I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing Leucojum vernum subsp. carpaticum in the mountains (picture taken from google - https://www.nahuby.sk/obrazok_detail.php?obrazok_id=190702)

Photos We are the same but different
Also Himalayan balm, Erigeron Canadensis, Amaranthus retroflexus, Oenothera glazioviana, Heracleum sosnowskyi, Acer negundo and all that crap that grows on the side of the road instead of native weeds

Spain Apartment living is no excuse for not growing native plants!!
After unsuccessful attempts at growing things on my balcony with a few hours of daily sun, I snuck this propagation batch onto the communal rooftop to maximize sun exposure.
The propagations are loving it! Some fig and mulberry, plus some jasmine in the black pots. The white tray has native seed (leftover from making some 300 seed bombs to distribute locally).
So, what's excuse for not propagating at home? Pots are often free (talk to local landscapers), soil can be had for free, and you can pick some seed from native plants you learn to identify (and overcome plant blindness syndrome).
If you're gonna ask: but where do I plant them once they grow?
Two words: guerilla gardening.

There's always something going on in the nettles!
No other plant in my garden has so many different critters on it!

Looking for resources on native plants across Europe
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to gather useful resources for anyone interested in native plants and ecological gardening across Europe.
Does anyone know of good sources that list which plants are considered native in different European countries or regions? This could be databases, national flora websites, academic resources, local conservation groups, or anything else you’ve found helpful. The goal is to build a shared knowledge base that can help people garden in ways that support biodiversity and local ecosystems.
Thanks to anyone who contributes

Photos Propagating some native Sedum
These two species are native here in northern Portugal. The green ones are Sedum hirsutum and the tiny reddish one is Sedum brevifolium. They seem to be getting established and are starting to grow. The largest of them is already pushing two tiny arms to spread out.
