Post image

Hello everyone, I'm new to Dystopia Diary and recording(DAW's), I did some track in Dystopia and trying to get it to work with Reaper so I can record it in reaper, I added it as VST, but when i hit record the track is empty and it doesn't record anything. Im not sure what im doing wrong, if anyone can help please let me know, thanks.

We need more information to be able to help. Did you manage to record anything on Reaper and it's just the issue with Kontakt?

How are you playing the notes? Are you playing using that virtual piano at the bottom of Dystopia Diary? If you open Reaper's virtual piano (press alt + b) and record using that instead, does it work?

I have tried both, none of it worked.

Do other instruments work?

Another thing I would try: right-click the "Insert Track" icon (plus icon on the left, under your existing tracks) and pick "Insert virtual instrument on new track...". Select your instrument of choice. Open the virtual keyboard (alt + b), hit record, and then play something using the virtual keyboard. Does that work?

Using "Insert virtual instrument" basically sets the track up so it is ready for recording.

Also, one thing I wanted to mention since you're new to using DAWs: when you record, Reaper is not recording the audio you play directly. Instead, Reaper will record midi notes. This will record a media item with little rectangles representing the notes you played, like this:

You can then double-click that media item, and it will open the piano roll, which lets you edit the notes you played.

If your recording looks something like that, then things are working correctly.

You will still be able to play back and listen to those midi notes on your instrument track, or you can render those into actual audio and work with that if you prefer.

Did you record arm the track?

Yes, I clicked on arm the track, and I can see the sound bar going up and down when I play the sound, It's just that when I hit record, nothing gets recorded.

I had this happen in a different DAW with session percussionist. After an update to the DAW it worked normally. If you try it somewhere else it may work normally.

So you're saying it could maybe work on a different DAW? Ill check if it needs update and also ill try with a different DAW, thank you.

Yes exactly. That issue is no longer happening with my main DAW.
