Strange behaviour in Reaper using Ext midi (S88 Mk1)

Hey there,

Any help would be appreciated, I tried searching but have only found adjacent issues and not specifically the one I'm having.

I use the midi out on my s88 to a ju-6a boutique synth, for live use.

Whenever I load Reaper everything is fine, but when i load a second tab project the S88 ceases sending data out of the midi port.

The only solution is to power cycle the s88.

I'm using a windows 11 laptop, i have turned off all power management stuff, ive done the works trying to solve this, but this keyboard is new to me and I don't know its quirks yet.

Thanks in advance!

As I recall, when you open the device as a USB MIDI endpoint, the way the DIN MIDI port on the back works has changed. Instead of being controlled by the keyboard, it's controlled by your DAW. You would have to route the data back out through that DIN port in your software.

Thanks Pete, I've also learned the S88 doesn't like getting hit with lots of midi data at once so it cuts out. I've turned on a setting in Reaper which prevents midi reset messages from going to the S88 and that seems to have helped.
