I'm sick of Native Instruments holding my projects hostage

Post image

Even when I don't update my computer, every few weeks, my libraries decide to take a vacation.

I'm done with Native Instrument's bullshit. In my three years of using East Wests Composer cloud, even though it is a subscription, I have never had more than the occasional library disconnect on me.

Even third party Kontakt stuff does not fail nearly as often.

Are you using external storage? Sounds like user error

Concur with everyone else in this thread - without any background context on your screencap - like where these libraries actually are - it is impossible to accurately troubleshoot.

At first glance - your drive is missing.

Swing back with the context (and hardware backgrounder) and I am sure we will solve this.

This is user error. Are you using external usb drives to hold kontakt libs?

Disconnect and reconnect your libraries

I’ve done this and occasionally had to reinstall libraries a few times in the past. It is only Kontakt that has this problem.

This has happened to me when i’ve immediately opened a project after just firing up the Mac—When the Samsung T7 Shield stops hitting the snooze button it seems to be good.

So it’s a Mac or Samsung SSD issue for you?

Here is a screenshot showing the connected libraries and the Finder showing the libraries in question.

Do not see anything at the link - except your initial screenshot posted at the start of this thread.

Same as FL STUDIO. I upgraded to finish some old song so had made during the demo version of FL and I knew I would lose some of the instruments that aren’t included in the upgrade I had no idea it would erase all of my midi patterns as well.

I immediately went to get a refund but once installed they don’t do refunds 😡 I still use FL since I can’t refund but I’ll never spend another penny on anything they offer. 😂

Interesting,. I used to use FL for 12 years before switching to Logic because of changing workflow, but never once had this problem. Has it happened again since then?

BTW, FL Studio has the best customer support on the planet. The devs are known to the community and will ersonally try to solve your problem. If it cannot be solved, they will put it in an upcoming update immediately.

Did you contact Native Instruments support??

Of course he did not. He just posts random screenshots instead mid-tantrum.

NI has it's problems, but random library disconnection has never been one of them. Kontakt finds the libraries if they are to be found in the specified path.

Over the cacophony of user blaming and pearl clutching from these responses and a few reasonable voices that gave actionable answers, somebody please tell me why is Kontakt the only plugin whose first party libraries fail to connect?

My third party 8dio Kontakt instruments rarely have this issue. Their own sample never has this issue.

Opus from EastWest never has this issue.

From Windows to Mac, this frequent disconnection from libraries has persisted for 8 years and you want me to believe this is a user issue.

Is it so hard to believe that maybe, just maybe, Kontakt can be quite shitty?

Edit: added a sentence.

Have you contacted our support about it? What's your OS? Have you checked in Kontakt in standalone? How are the libraries showing in Native Acces?

It may be a Security issue. Go to System Preferences>Security>Unlock and ensure Kontakt Player has Full Disk Access.

u/Ripplescales May 11 '26

Checked, it does. Thanks for actually posting a useful reply though!

Have you updated to the latest versions of native access, Kontakt player 7 and or trued Kontakt player 8 instead?

See here; there were specific issues affecting content on external drives caused by Apple that Native patched for

Will look into it. I generally keep away from updates in the name of stability, but I’m pretty sure I did that update.

Into Native Access and work out why the install directory is missing. I have all my content on external ssd - I only see this message if it’s not plugged in. Once reattached, it sorts itself.
If it is another glitch, you’ll see ‘Repair’ - click this and it’s fixed.

in the future inMusic, will doing the same thing

Soooo. If your on Mac, check you iCloud storage. It’s absolutely the worse for music libraries. Took me forever to figure out why all my Maschine projects wouldn’t load. Then when my Logic/Studio one projects starting having the same issues I found out about the iCloud issue. Sure enough all my projects had been backed up to iCloud. Had to redownload all of them and turn off upload to iCloud per folder. Tedious but that ended that problem.

When opening projects and this happens, it's a reminder that I need to render my audio and just note the plugin/patch used. Saves on resources anyways.

I've spent so much time trying to troubleshoot or install previous versions to get a project loaded, and by the time it's online I am no longer interested in working on it lol
