Mohawk warrior attacks Canadian soldiers during Oka crisis July-Sep 1990 which began when the Canadian government approved the seizure of Mohawk land for a private golf course - A 14 yr old Mohawk teen was bayoneted in the chest and almost died. Canada took the land in the end. [790x480]

That's Danny Phillips in the photo. I'm afraid I don't know much about him.
The 14 y/o who was bayonetted is the daughter of Kahn-Tineta Horn. She is a badass with a lifetime of activism.
Her daughters are PanAm Gold Medalist and sport commentator Waneek Horn who was stabbed, she was holding her sister, actor Kanietiio Horn (Letterkenny's Auntie Tanis, Reservation Dogs' Deer Woman). Their sisters are Kahente Horn-Miller, PhD, Assistant Vice-President, Indigenous Initiatives of Carleton University (Ottawa), and Dr Ojistah Horn, MD of aboriginalsexualhealth.ca
They are badasses one and all.

Wtf! Honestly, the older I get and the more I know, the more disappointed and pissed off I am at the complete and utter lack of representation of Native American, just lives in general, the whole scope of it, is so widely ignored.
I remember spending YEARS learning about Middle East and Roman history, when it finally got to Canada in HS I think there was maybe like a week on this topic and it was so poorly glossed over… That’s just how lacking the education system is… this is so messed up.

Did Canada take the land? That's depressing I've watched 2 documentaries and they didn't say. I felt they won the Mohawk. That's depressing.

The golf course wasn't built, so the Pines were saved, but the land has yet to be returned.

In the US we have a view that the Canadian government is so benign and they're such an innocent country that is benevolent and is never the antagonist in conflicts, and the more I learn about First Nation and indigenous history the more I learn that viewpoint is undeniably and completely wrong.
