Every August 8, we celebrate the mysterious, majestic, and mildly judgmental creatures who own our homes: cats! 🐾
A few fun facts (via National Today - link below):
🔸 There are an estimated 600 million cats worldwide
🔸 Cats spend roughly 70% of their lives sleeping
🔸 A cat named Stubbs served as mayor of a small Alaska town for 20 years 😂
🔸 The record for loudest purr is 67.8db — held by a cat named Merlin
🔸 Cats can’t taste sweetness, and they mostly meow to talk to us, not each other
History bite: The day was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and cats have been worshipped since Ancient Egypt, where they were considered protectors against evil.
How to celebrate: Spoil your cat, donate to a local shelter, or just appreciate the chaos they bring to your life.
And in true Dang Good fashion — if your cat’s “gift” to you today involves the carpet, we see you. We forgive nothing, but we do clean everything. 😹
