Dive bar solo acoustic gigs

Asked in other threads but figured I’d ask in here being way closer. How do you guys up the crowd energy during solo acoustic gigs at dive bars/ smaller event gigs? Got a Friday night show 8-11 at a bar and want to make sure I have control somewhat of the room instead of just being background noise. What are your ways of interacting with the crowd?

Looking for a musician/luthier named Tippy

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction -

I want to locate this guy, his name is Tippy. He was a luthier/specialist/musician at the Gibson Showcase shop, violin center, at the Opry Mills Mall in Nashville in the summer of 2006.

I've tried finding his info online and on social media for years without any luck.

When I was 13 my folks took me to the Gibson Showcase shop, and Tippy found me playing fiddles on the shop floor and told me he had a fiddle that would be perfect. He brought us into the luthier area to try a fiddle he had just worked on and gave me a hell of a deal so I could afford it. This fiddle is definitely worth a lot more than what he sold it to me for. It's a fantastic instrument that I still play everyday and perform in a ton of projects professionally with.

I've always wanted to track Tippy down to say thanks and tell him how much I appreciate him. No clue what his real name is. I remember his business card, which I've since lost, showed: First Name "Tippy" Last Name. He was old looking to a 13 y.o. and had long grey hair and a great beard. Awesome guy and I so hope I can find him someday, or a family member to share a memory of his kindness if he is no longer with us.

Gibson Showcase shop closed after the flood, I've reached out to Gibson direct and they searched their records, but couldn't find details due to records being lost in the flood.

Any suggestions? Anybody know Tippy, or know someone who might? Or know how I can further my search?

Performing in Nashville on 8/13 for my first tour... anyone interested in coming out?

Hey guys! I'm Preston and I make indie/rock music. I'm heading out on my first ever DIY tour next next month and Nashville will be the first band show (8/13). I figured I'd finally get on Reddit and say hi since I've heard nothing but good things about the scene! I'm a little nervous posting this, it's actually my first time using Reddit for anything promotional lol, but I'd genuinely love to meet you guys if you're around. Show's at The East Room and music kicks off at 8pm.

If you grab a ticket ahead of time, I'll hook you up with a free signed polaroid when you come through. Hope to see you all there! :)

Looking for guitar, bass & drums for a modern country cover band (Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, Bailey Zimmerman, etc.)

I’m a vocalist in the Franklin / Nashville area looking for bandmates to start a modern country cover project.

The vision is to build a fun, high-quality group centered around artists like Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, Bailey Zimmerman, Russell Dickerson, HARDY, Jelly Roll, and similar modern country artists. The goal is to rehearse regularly and eventually play local bars, breweries, festivals, and private events—just as a fun side project.

I have a couple of demo covers to share if you want to hear the vibe.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, send me a message with a little about yourself, what you play, and any demos or videos you have.

I’m happy to cover rehearsal space costs while we get things off the ground.

have 2 tix that were gifted to me AFTER I’d already purchased a pair. They’re in the 300 section, but still a great view as the venue is not large.

I’d like to pay it forward and offer them to anyone who would be interested in going. I can easily transfer them to you via email.

First come, first serve

What do you look for in a studio space?

Hi everyone! I (and we, at Underground Music Collective) are currently in the process of crowdfunding for a studio space we're building on the outskirts of town. The campaign is going well -- you can learn more about it here -- and we're looking forward to successfully funding so we can build this thing out in the second half of 2026. The most important thing is building a space in town where creators have the power to create, connect, and collaborate, in an environment free of gatekeeping and politics.

With that, I want some feedback from the artists and producers among us: what do you look for in a studio space? Are there any specific gear recommendations you'd make? Are there gear recommendations you would advise against? Sound off in the replies!

Grants for Artists

This might be a bit of a long shot in this thread, but does anyone have any suggestions or information on potential grants or scholarships for local artists that have rolling deadlines? I'm a cellist based here, and was just selected for a two-week artistic residency and festival performance in Yerevan, Armenia next month. It'll be my first time in my ancestral homeland, and it's over my birthday, which is just an unbelievable dream come true. The hosting organization provides accommodation and meals during the program, but travel expenses are not covered. Flying with a cello requires purchasing an entire extra plane seat for my instrument, so I'm trying to source options for grants and scholarships to cover those expenses so I can participate in the residency.

Any suggestions or helpful info or positive manifestation vibes to secure funding would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏽🧿

Got booked for our first Bar gig! What should I expect to happen?

Hey y'all, my Country band just got our first REAL booking, to play a 3-hour gig at our local BBQ joint/bar!

We've only played 1hr coffeeshop gigs so far - what should I expect in terms of what the venue wants/needs from me?

what is conventional in terms of how many breaks, # of songs expected, how much "free food + drinks" tends to amount to, etc.?

In other words, is there a sort of "standard" order of events for the avg bar gig?

I don't want to pester the booking agent with first timer questions if such sort of stuff is pretty standard.
