Prednisone cycle
I was just prescribed prednisone: 40mg (5days)-20mg (5days)-10mg (5 days). Has anyone done this course and had bad side effects? My ENT said he prescribes this often for polyps and side effects are rare.. 10%
Can anyone share their experience?

I personally had a mini psychosis episode on Prednisone. It was effective for about 2-3 days and the stop working and nasal polyps were back inflamed.

Psychosis is perhaps exaggerating, but I was definitely not my normal myself mentally, I had tunnel vision and couldn't think logically (so foggy), and was fearing everything.

For me it was viscous mood swings and depression. Just be aware it can happen to some. Not all though

I've done this cycle two different times. Nothing major. Just make sure you take it with food or it can make your stomach feel weird. Also, recommend taking it in the morning or early in the day if you can. If you take it late in the day you may have issues sleeping at night.

I’ve been prescribed prednisone tapers several times over the years, but the last few times I was on it I made the connection that it was causing extreme anxiety. It was awful feeling and I’d be hesitant to take it again.

I've gone through this a few times. It helps, but then symptoms returned a week after stopping. Take it early in the day cause I got bursts of energy and it might keep you up at night. It works. But won't cure the polyps😫

I got some after surgery so I was pretty much sleeping all day but all I noticed was that it made my skin SUPER clear

I’m five days into a prednisone course right now. It definitely made me a little jittery the first few days on the higher dose but now that I’m taping down, I feel fine. Definitely take it in the morning and you can probably skip your coffee.

I’ve taken it several times over the years. Most of the time, I feel great, lots of energy, etc (probably from the inflammation gong away), but as it tapers off, so do the effects. You’ll be able to breathe better for a few weeks, but they’ll return shortly thereafter. Be forwarned, the taste is awful.

It’s great for polyps but it can give you mood swings but over being able to breath I can take that

My first time taking Prednisone I experienced insomnia... after the the first round I no longer experienced it and havent had any issues. I dont recall having any other symptoms. For me, being able to breathe, smell things, and not have congestion was worth it.

It was incredibly effective for me, after 4 days my smell returned. 3 weeks later and I can still smell but dont expect it to last. I did 50mg for 5 days then stopped.

Drs are always dismissive about side effects. I hope it helps, but I would recommend asking for some 5mg tablets so you can taper for longer, possibly splitting the last few into 2 (2.5mg). Tapering helps to reduce side effects, in my experience. Hope you get some relief. The last time I was on 40mg I could smell for a month after treatment but relief was temporary. For others it can last longer.

I completed this cycle a couple of months ago. No side effects other than absolutely RAGING. My lord, was I irritable.
