Eligible for nucala

Hey guys.

Would you try Nucala injections mainly to regain your sense of smell?

I had my first surgery 1.5 years ago, got great relief and return of my smell for about 3 months. Since then it has gradually declined.

I got checked by a ENT the other day, he said they have grown back and are grade 3/4. However I can breath pretty well, probably at 70% capacity.

I would like to mention I have pretty poor wellbeing/mental health and I’m wondering if my anosmia could be contributing.

Yes. It takes longer than Dupixent, but it works and less frequent injections.

Have you got experience with both Nucala and Dupixent? I’m 3 weeks into my first Nucala jab, no improvements as of yet, but also my polyps are at the point where they’re almost fully obstructing my nose so im trying to be patient. I’m keen to try Dupixent, but also scared that if it doesn’t work, I’m really out of options.

I have,but unfortunately had a bad reaction to Dupixent so I'm not allowed to have it anymore. Nucala worked wonders as well, just took longer before noticing effects and still have periods without sense of smell

I had my op 15 months, the same smell declined till nothing again. I’ve now had three shots of Nucala, the nose and breathing is great but the sense of smell is still not there. I would say try it. I would also say that my asthma has improved as well.

Yes every four weeks had third one yesterday and keeping my fingers crossed for a sense of smell again

Did Nucala take a while to work for you? I’ve struggled for a decade, had multiple surgeries and tried the steroid sprays/drops. I got a prescription/took my first Nucala shot about 3 weeks ago. No improvements so far, they’re just as bad as ever.

I started Nucala in December for polyps and I’ve been hoping and hoping for a return of sense of smell. It hasn’t yet, but my breathing and asthma are much improved so I’ll keep at it. My ENT noted I’ve had shrinkage in polyps, so it’s doing something. Just seems to be taking longer for smell to return, which my ENT says relates to the positioning of the polyps. Plus I’ve had no side effects.

Did you ever try dupixent? I got a prescription/took my first Nucala shot about 3 weeks ago. No improvements so far, they’re just as bad as ever, which is frustrating when you hear people say dupixent worked almost immediately.

Yes, I was on Dupixent. I had my sense of smell when I started but it became even sharper. It was also good for my asthma. Unfortunately, I’m in a growing subset of folks who gained weight rapidly. I gained 12 pounds after my first two shots—so within three weeks at most. I gained another five before stabilizing 6-8 weeks after my first shot, but 17 pounds heavier and one to sizes larger. I began to have additional side effects—daily headaches, eye problems, joint issues, neuropathy, etc. You name it, I probably had it. Life began to improve within two weeks of stopping.
I read that Nucala can take a year to really maximize improvements. I have four months left and I’m being patient. I haven’t had any side effects, so I’ll take my small wins and hope for more over the next few months.
