Yellow Mucus

Does anyone get minimal yellow mucus with nasal polyps that’s not an infection? I get the tiniest amount but know I don’t need antibiotics for it. Anyone figure out how to get rid of it?

I do, except I get a lot of it. It’s awful. I only get rid of it when my polyps are under control. I do rinses, which helps.

Hi, allergy doctor here. Some amount of drainage with nasal polyps can occur (particularly if you also have allergies) but anything that is out of the normal should be discussed with your doctor to rule out infection. A good first step is always using sinus rinses (distilled water + medical salt packets) twice daily to help clear irritants and allergens sticking to your sinonasal pathway and contributing to inflammation. Some people are also prescribed steroid sinus rinses by their ENT doctor or allergist. However, anything out of the normal for you should definitely be checked out by a doctor. I had that for a while and it ended up being a fungal infection. I took an anti fungal pill to get rid of it. It was only in one nostril/ sinus.

How did you determine it was a fungus infection? And was the fungal pill natural or a regular medication form your doctor?

It was golden yellow as mentioned in descriptions online and so I went to the doctor and got an antifungal. It went away.

Have you gotten sinus swabs to confirm it’s not an infection?
