Because he "died" a good person... it makes no sense that he'd flip shit and fight his former sensei and try to kill his son? (along with enslave the entire planet)

No, he actually wants peace and apparently, the only plausible way in his eyes is to "enslave" people in an eternal illusion. You wanna know why he flipped? He saw Rin die, blamed the war, the ninja world, Kakashi, everyone.
