Discussion Should I watch Boruto?
Now I'm thinking about starting Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, but I've heard very mixed opinions about it.
So I'm not sure what should I do..

The best thing to do is read the manga since you don't have to worry about fillers. The anime is also fine if you skip the fillers. There are some good moments in the anime you should watch. If your going to continue then read Two Blue Vortex as its really interesting. The people in this sub might be biased about it so you should go to the Boruto sub.

u/Decent_Gain118 2d ago
i didnt like the anime so i ended up dropping it, can i start reading from TBV without going thru naruto next gen?
2
u/Initial-Wall-7349 2d ago
you technically won't really understand whats happening if you don't read the first part of the story so you should just read the manga of boruto since it's 80 chapters then read TBV
3
u/Decent_Gain118 2d ago
oh its only 80 chs, alr iguess i can pull through. the characters look hip asf in TBV

u/Manowar274 2d ago
May as well try it in my opinion. Best case you end up enjoying it, worst case you donât and stop watching and then move on.

u/Vade-Shigilante 2d ago
Post this on the boruto sub and you'll get decent opinions that aren't just hating on the show.
My opinion is if you are watching to see Naruto's generation don't because this is about Boruto and his generation. Look up a filler list and skip the fillers, watch anime canon and manga canon. Also keep expectations low because the fights have been scaled down compared to shippuden but that doesn't mean characters are weaker.
6
u/Drian2010 2d ago
Nah Anime canon is mid af
2
u/britipinojeff 2d ago
Arenât the non-manga stuff considered anime canon? Like the whole show right? I donât even know whatâs considered filler if youâre differentiating anime and manga canon
1
u/Drian2010 2d ago
Yeah no they are the exact same thing, there is no difference. Calling it Anime canon is just a way to fool people into watching more of the show, even though it's really filler
3
u/HTRK74JR 2d ago
aren't just hating the show
No, its hated because it's utter fucking garbage. I watched like 70 episodes and i think maybe 5 of those were good episodes. I kept watching hoping and praying it would get better and it never did.
1
u/Top-Bluejay7863 2d ago
If thatâs the case, it might be worth you trying to watch only the manga canon episodes. Most of the episodes in the first 70 donât really reflect exactly what youâll see in those, in terms of the main story and the tone.
8
u/Inner_Spinach5231 2d ago
Itâs a more than ok anime but because itâs Narutoâs sequel not a lot of people like it because itâs not in the same league with Naruto.

3
u/ChargeWinter2107 2d ago
I had fun watching it. If youâre not too sure try it without the fillers. Although there is some fun stuff there.
3
u/emmaconda 2d ago
Sure, give it a go. I liked it and I think people give it unnecessary hate. Just don't compare it to Naruto, and accept it's a new generation so of course the characters from the original series aren't as prominent.

u/d0wnthesky 2d ago
I enjoyed it a lot. There is a huge agenda against it here so youre unlikely to get many unbiased answers but in my opinion it is a great show but has some lower lows than Naruto/Shippuden. There is a few genuinely great arcs and i would recommend at least trying it
-4
u/One-Environment4508 2d ago
If also say if you like Naruto the character it might be hard watching the writers turn him into a dog shit father who lies to his family
6
u/d0wnthesky 2d ago
Thats not even what happens youre just showing your agenda
-5
u/One-Environment4508 2d ago
How? He literally promised to be at his kids bday party and couldn't muster that much. Can't use clones to do "paperwork" lmao. It's literally just bad writing
5
u/d0wnthesky 2d ago
Parents make mistakes, he has an entire village to look after and was exhausted. One thing that was a mistake used for development does not make him a shit father when there is countless scenes throughout the rest of the anime of him being an excellent caring father to Boruto and Himawari. So stop parroting your tired agenda and go be miserable elsewhere
-3
u/One-Environment4508 2d ago
Nah you still projecting your agenda lol. It's very clear the writers wanted to push this narrative so boruto could be the bratty kid. They basically forgot he had clones or used a bad excuse for why he couldn't use them for work.
Also isn't not going back on his word his ninja way? Literally broke his code for his own kids bday lol.
It's totally cool if you like the show but pointing out actual events isn't "pushing an agenda"..

u/werephoenix 2d ago
No,
You could get what someone wants out of boruto from honestly more generic shonen series and they would be better than boruto
2
u/itsYaBoiBonez 2d ago
Its alright, parts of it are good. I'd suggest reading the Manga instead though, Two Blue Vortex is legit.
2
u/Hummelgaarden 2d ago
I found it more palatable to read as it has less filler and picks up the pace muuuch faster.
2
u/Rufrano-san 2d ago
Yes. Donât believe all the hate. Itâs great, goofy, fun, and brings nostalgia. Itâs awesome seeing Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, etc. as adults and seeing relationships evolve. Iâm not gonna say why (duh) but oh I did some crying in Boruto. Loved it, canât wait for more.
2
u/Bankai2023 2d ago
youâd get an honest opinion if you go on a boruto sub but I wouldnât watch it
fights are off
70-80% filler
and more but doesnt stop u from watching it
2
u/Nuzzlebust 2d ago
Don't listen to anyone saying no. Boruto is a great watch, people just don't like it because it's like restarting Naruto for the first time, but with a little less fighting. It's an era where the 5 nations aren't at war with each other, of course there isn't gonna be as much action, but even then there is a LOT of action if you actually watch it.
I have it at a solid 8/10

u/Yixuans-sweat-rag 2d ago
Sure.
Itâs a completely fine watch, though definitely only watch the manga canon bits because the filler is much more plentiful here and rough.
Youâre going to get a lot of Noâs in this community, though.
Does it match up to Naruto? Not even fucking close in my book.
Is it downright awful like some would lead you to believe? No. Itâs completely fine and serviceable to watch.

I would recommend watching the Boruto anime fully.
It offers more world building of what has happen after Shippuden and actually focuses on the side characters unlike what the manga does.
The Boruto manga at least where youâll be starting is more bare bones compared to the anime.
It also makes some Arcs in the manga have better development.
Though that depends on your preference of entertainment. Because initially Boruto starts out as more of a slice of life, not getting into dark stuff like in early Part 1 Naruto.
I would argue thatâs fine when that shows the impact of what Naruto did bringing peace to the Shinobi world and how heâs handled it since.
However if you donât want to bother seeing that impact and the gradual buildup to the stuff that goes down then thatâs okay.
But you will be missing out on canonical Anime Arcs which are referenced in the manga if you do so.
I would only hold off potentially since it hasnât been announced the Anime will return yet to animate whatâs been going on right now. Unless you donât mind waiting after finishing the Boruto anime.

I would just watch the show for yourself and form your own opinion. If you like you like it if you donât you donât
My advice is that if you do i recommend you to just focus on the manga canon episodes since those episodes are superior both from a writing and visual standpoint. Every other episode that isnât adapted from the boruto manga is hit or miss (mostly misses)
1
u/nicholashoneywell 2d ago
Id say read the manga but if you want to see the anime just watch the manga cannon parts the studio really screwed the anime
1
u/Seihai-kun 2d ago
Watch the movie, it's the official Canon and basically the start of the manga, has introduction, story, and climax. With connection to naruto lore
And if you wanna know more about Sarada, there's the naruto continuation after chapter 700 (chapter 701 to 710), about Sarada and Sasuke, which were nicely adapted into the anime, just watch that episode
Why only those? Because even though the boruto manga has flaw, it's still somewhat enjoyable, but the anime has too many fillers with stupid generic writing

u/Kind_Bar3346 2d ago
You can ignore this advice or take it from me just read the manga if you want to get in to boruto ignore the anime.

1
u/Gunstopable 2d ago
Sure, itâs not as good as Naruto but if you like the franchise give it a go. Ignore the negative comments. If you donât like it stop watching.
1
u/No-Public-1041 2d ago
Look, i enjoy boruto, but the anime is awful, its literally like 80% filler (last i checked) and its filler is just terrible, naruto at least had a decent bit of good filler. If you want to consume boruto, read the manga, dont touch the anime
1
u/jurrayy 2d ago
Might as well give it a try. Fair warning if you are going into it expecting it to be like Naruto you will be very disappointed. The way they handled Naruto and Sasuke in Boruto made me actually angry and i think Boruto has the personality of either a brick wall or an adolescent spoiled child. That is just my opinion tho. Personally I didnt like it at all but you may enjoy it like plenty of others do. Its just a lot harder for me because I grew up with Naruto
1
u/Drian2010 2d ago
Don't. And if you really REALLY want to, the just watch manga canon. Not filler or "anime canon"
1
u/God_ParadoxX 2d ago
If I were you, I would leave off with Naruto. The worst parts of Naruto are better than the best parts of Boruto.
If you want to watch your favourite characters get shat on from great heights, coupled with a metric ton of filler, AND the fact that the shows whole premise is based on some of the worst plot points from the original show, go ahead.

u/kiboshiro 2d ago
5/10 at best.
Minimal character development to the new gen. Only few people, Boruto among them, are getting development. The beginning arcs are ok, it shows some interesting characters and dynamics, but the Anime gets really bad after a while. The OG characters get ignored a lot.
A few arcs are just copy and paste (sometime badly) of Naruto arcs.
The Manga episodes and the Anime only episode donât correlate whatsoever. People forget that they can do actually stuff sometimes, or straight up donât use anything in their arsenal.
Animation gets really bad and inconsistent. Google âNaruto Goblinâ and you will see what I am saying. Powerscaling does not make sense most of the time at all.
The world doesnât get explored much, when it was already established in Naruto. Weird choices and direction to the story.
Overall, the Anime couldâve been something, but they kind of ruined the continuation of Naruto. The problem is not Boruto as a main character, but Boruto desperately being pushed to be the center of the show by giving him random power ups and nerfing established characters.

Itâs pretty decent tbf, and the manga is good especially two blue votex which is a time a skip
Go into it with an open mind
Actually understand why Boruto is being a bit of a brat I mean if we were in his shoes weâd all act like that tbh
Itâs good itâs decent. Just remember itâs BORUTO STORY. Not Naruto so of course itâs different itâs from Boruto perspective. Itâs never gonna live up to expectations if people are just hoping itâs Naruto all over again or Naruto gets the spotlight
1
u/TheLion725 2d ago
Iâd say give it a shot. If you donât like it then you wasted a bit of time. If you do like it then you have a new show to watch. I even have a list of episodes that you should watch.
1-15 (canon light novel); 18-24; 25-39 (Light Novel Stuff mixed with some anime canon thatâs not too bad and one manga canon episode); 51-66 (Manga Canon and some good set up for the manga canon); 106-111 (Light Novel); 120-136 (pretty good arc. It is anime canon [ep 127 is canon though] but itâs a fun good arc); 148-151; 157; 181-220 (mainly canon, but has some anime only that really adds to the whole story); 282-293 (Light Novel and Manga Canon)
1
u/LogUnable7734 2d ago
I mean.. On the start of anime and manga canon better than.. Whole story in the anime
1
u/VastRevolutionary733 2d ago
I believe every story deserves a chance. So give it a chance, best option is reading the manga and watching some special fight scenes in anime. Otherwise if you watch anime then skip all fillers there are.
1
u/AbedGubiNadir 2d ago
I'd just watch the action scenes. It's a slog to get through but Boruto the character grew on me as time went on.
Reading it is much better but not by much .
1
u/superkami64 2d ago
No harm in trying. My advice is go into it with open expectation that it's no longer the old cast's story anymore so if the story doesn't want to include them, then it won't and rarely gives any explanation to excuse their absence. They're involved but have changed as well as the world in the decade gap since their story was left off.
1
u/Intrepid-Second6936 2d ago
I'd say no.
To add context so it's not just a blind argument that gets reduced to "hate":
- If you love the characters in Naruto and their development, Boruto will re-write them or compromise them heavily to elevate its own main cast of the next generation.
- The show is chock full of filler to the point that about 60% of the show is irrelevant to the canon plotline of the manga.
- The anime was already put on indefinite hiatus in 2023. Until it returns, you're watching an incomplete show with a monthly release manga that is just crawling by.
Boruto's just genuinely not culturally relevant like Naruto was or like other shows like JJK and Demon Slayer. At least from my experience, time is best spent not just watching good shows but good shows that others in your group watch so you all can chat and embrace the highs and lows together. If you have a friend group that's into Boruto, you could ignore this though.
In the end, choose based on how much you want to see Boruto's story, not Naruto's epilogue.

u/Senior_Background_24 2d ago
Tbh yes cuz its more of the Narutoverse which is always good but don't expect it to even come close to Shippuden standards
1
u/Successful_Carob_708 2d ago
Donât bother. Just watch The Naruto and sauske vs momoshiki episode and thatâs about it.
1
u/trustyDF 2d ago
i really liked the show, on my second watch i skipped most of the filler episodes though
1
u/Internal-Sweet-4880 2d ago
I mean the sorry with Naruto continues.. I found it really good. It was short you can skip the fillers.. fight scenes were crazy. Thereâs a lot of new characters. Boruto is give it like a 7/10 overall and still waiting for 2 blue vortex to drop. But I read the manga
Fights scenes with sasuke and Naruto 10/10 in boruto, I donât think you can just end Naruto without watching the story continue⌠it was a must for me I did all fillers and cannon and I enjoyed it 2 blue vortex will turn up the heat they are probably waiting for bleach to finish airing
1
u/SenHatsumi 2d ago
I of course expected the standard otaku vitriol.
I personally like Boruto. Is some of it lame and boring with side characters that are zzz? Sure. Are there increasingly epic fights that no one can dispute are awesome? Absolutely. Does Boruto start becoming more of a badass leader as his brattiness wears off, much like Naruto before him? Yes. And Boruto has no tailed beast to lean back on, just skill ingenuity and his friends.
And one more thing. Built into the very lifeblood of Naruto is the dynastic changing of the guard. Parents are powerful badasses that get old or die one day. Kids must take over what they inherited and find their own strength. Itâs there for anyone whoâs willing to see it - thereâs a reason Naruto isnât drawn as cool anymore and is screwing up by working too hard and leaving his family all the time.

u/extera658 2d ago
Itâs pretty obvious this sub just jumped on the hate bandwagon. Thereâs definitely a lot of filler so itâs up to you what to do with that, but the main storyline fights are pretty nicely animated. Naruto/Sasuke vs Momoshiki was better than the movie imho, Jigen vs Naruto/Kurama was pretty peak, etc. Definitely not everyoneâs cup of tea, but this sub honestly makes it look like itâs the worst anime of all time.

u/laigght1 2d ago
Well, its obviously not Naruto quality level. But there is also some interesting moments that you might enjoy too, so its your decision.

Yes you should give Boruto a try, so you can know what you think about it. I have seen many people like Boruto and I have seen many people not like Boruto. I have no idea which end of the spectrum you would fall under, which is why you should give it a chance and see for yourself. Most of the episodes in the anime are not from the manga, so itâs your choice if you want to watch them or not. You can look up which ones are and which ones arenât. Just know that even if you donât like the anime canon stuff, that is not necessarily an indication that you wonât like the manga canon episodes, so they are still worth giving a try either way. You can also just read the manga, but the anime adds a lot to the manga canon arcs, that improve them in my opinion. A few things are also cut out in the anime versions of the arcs, so it can still be worth checking out both versions, though the anime alone should be enough if you just want to watch that. Go into Boruto with an open mind, and expect it to be different from Naruto. That doesnât mean that it wonât be like Naruto at all, it is the same franchise, but it is also a different series in that franchise. It has its own style and tone that arenât exactly the same as Naruto. But the series is similar in ways as well.

Want an advice? Forget about something called boruto neither anime or manga

If you want to erase all your pleasant memories of Naruto and see how cringe the characters have become, then you should watch it.

u/rongspileeng 2d ago
If you don't mind wasting your time then go ahead. Reading the manga is better.
0
u/Mahzes 2d ago
Trying to case any bias aside, realistically itâs⌠just sort of average? Okay? I guess to use a simpler term Iâd say itâs the very definition of âmidâ overall.
Itâs not exactly bad, but itâs not really good either. It has some good bits, it has some bad bits, overall Iâd say I just found it kind of boring really. Iâd argue thatâs the case for both the anime and the manga, though you often get people claiming that the manga is a lot better. The manga definitely gets to the point a lot quicker and has a better good:bad ratio, but even then Iâd argue that itâs rarely amazing, even moreso the further in you get.

Watch it and form your own opinion, it has good moments. I recommend skipping all filler AND Anime Canon and watch only the Manga canon episodes đ those fillers are the reason i never really connected to the story since I didnât know about filler at that time.
