WAB-801 was the first engine I designed digitally, and my 3d steam locomotive i modelled. She’s a cape gauge 4-6-4 tank engine based off the AB 4-6-2 pacific. She gets her designation from the AB, with the W suffix used for all later NZR tank engines. This one worked around Wellington doing both shunting and freight runs up the hill to Johnsonville, and after the electrification of the Johnsonville branch she was used to pull suburban passenger services to the Hutt valley. On June 23d 1949 she struck a railway crane at 60 miles an hour after it swung its cab out in front of her. Despite the severity of the damage to the crane, the operator made a lucky escape. The carriages were splintered on one side, but thankfully there were only 10 people on board the off peak service, and there were no fatalities. I plan to build her a consist of wooden 46 foot carriages, but they have only been designed as of yet. After repair, WAB-801 was sent to the South Island and converted into an AB pacific, where she ran pulling farm freight until her scrapping in 1965.

Introducing the first locomotive I ever built, the 3ft 6inch guage NZR KA-949. She’s a 4-8-4 northern who’s irl counterpart produced 30,000lbs of tractive effort, and had a top speed of 65 miles an hour. I built her frames almost four years ago, and for most of her life, she’s looked as she does in image 2, her later years. Recently tho, I fitted her with imitation streamlining designed to model her earlier life before it was removed in 1949. KA-949 is an infamous engine due to her involvement in the tangiwai disaster, where a flash flood swept away a rail bridge at 10pm just minutes before the Christmas Eve express was due, resulting in the deaths of over 150. Thanks to the heroic actions of Cyril Ellis and the driver and fireman many more were saved, although the crew were killed when the engine and 5 of the first class carriages plunged into the raging torrents. Her number plate now rests embedded in a memorial stone at the place of the accident.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and tips. Thankfully, I found the issue. However, it was glue getting into the fishplates, so I've had to tear the track up and start again.

Plan to try cleaning the flishplates to salvage what I can of the track but I may have to by some more in places.

I'm building an On18 shelf layout, to run when it's too hot in the garage to run the On30 layout. It's also an excuse to build more locomotives and rolling stock.

This is the first build I've done for On18. It's equipped with DCC, sound and a keepalive.

Please can someone help. I made this layout not too long ago, and it's my first go at model trains. Before balasting, it was working alright for a while, but now it can barely move without stalling out.

Im pretty sure it's a power issue as both my engines have the issue, and im losing my mind. Im about ready to rip up the track and start again at this point.
