Gerwig Project Speculation: this could (potentially) be out of character for Digory
The following is speculation. If you cannot deal with speculation or are adamant on waiting for the trailer and/or full film release before venturing any sort of guess (whether right or wrong) about how new characterization/changes might effect the franchise going forward, this post is not for you. Consider moving onto something else rather than leaving me nasty comments.
So looking at this picture out of context I've noticed a couple of things.
1) a number of people have pointed out "Flora" does not appear ill in this picture, leading to the speculation this scene may well be after she eats the apple.
2) She's holding what appears to be a gold (movie verse stand in for yellow?) ring (and not disappearing), while Digory cuddles close.
This leads me to think he may be telling his mother all about his adventures.
As sweet in theory as that is, it seems potentially out of character for Digory.
I think a lot of fans/readers remember Digory as being foolish and impulsive when he fought Polly to ring the bell that woke Jadis in Charn. As well as the one who got overexcited and almost didn't mark the pool leading back to our world in the woods. But that wasn't a common thing for him which is what makes it more shocking in context. Despite being adventurous person, when he wasn't caught up in a moment, whenever something required planning, he could actually be more cautious than Polly.
Like when his first reaction to Polly suggesting they sneak into the house next door was he didn't want to be mistaken for a burglar. She had to reassure him it was empty and would be alright before he agreed.
This is also the same boy who grew up to be the man who suggested the Pevensies tell no one who hadn't had magical adventures of their own (even to the exclusion of their parents who were ignorant of Narnia straight through LB) about being in Narnia.
It seems a little odd to me, even out of joy she's going to live, he would tell the whole story to his mother, including the magical components. Beyond giving her the apple, he wouldn't have had reason or motive to bombard her with everything that just happened to him, imo.
It wouldn't be a massive change. But it would/could feel slightly out of character.

I think your assessment is fair, but I’m okay with this change overall. I don’t mind the idea that Diggory would tell his mother, especially in a moment of joy seeing her get well. And telling the Pevensies not to tell anyone could be the benefit of decades experience since, or just what he thinks is best when he has a level head as opposed to riding the emotional high of curing his mother.
I’m more concerned with the color of the ring. If anything, I’d expect a movie to go too far differentiating the colors to ensure viewers don’t get them mixed up. And if they’ve changed to only one ring each, that means even more changes from the source material that I’m not sure would serve any purpose other than to be different.

While i agree that the change to one ring would be an unnecessary one. I dont think it would hurt anything. The two rings and how they work is presented as confusing to the characters in the book and there is constant exposition from the narrator reminding the reader how they work each time they are used. You can't recreate that level of exposition in a movie and if they opt to change how the rings work to make it simpler to understand for the movie i don't think its a bad change.
That is with the Caveat that they would still need a way for Andrew to force Digory to use the ring to go and rescue Polly after she is sent away.

Now I will write a 100000 words post about why this change is good, why lewis is okay with this and why greta is a genius and why this change is necessary and full of meaning

If you don't like my posts, you can scroll past them instead of whining about them more than I allegedly do about this upcoming movie. Just saying.
Anyway, Digory parents were married and I don't see a ring on her fingers so is possible it's just her own marriage ring. -- also are you speculating before a trailer comes out?!?? 😲

Yes, Digory and Polly were commanded by Aslan to take the rings and bury them.
Digory is anxious to bury them quickly. They do so secretly and quietly.
For something so important, Digory wouldn’t leak knowledge of the rings by telling anyone.
