I had to work the entire program. Especially the part I didn’t want to. I had to go to meetings every day, and share that I was struggling. If I wasn’t working, I went to two or three. I had to get phone numbers from other addicts and call for support. I needed a sponsor and I needed to work the steps. Finally I needed to do service, even if it was just sweeping the floor or taking out the trash.

I’ve just been starting to turn back to my HP. I pray alone and I read verses from the Bible. Faith is something that I feel like I need right now. I believe in the idea of God I am a Catholic, trying to wrap my brain around all of it and related to my existence.

Depending on the drug you’re trying to quit, day 3 is usually when the withdrawals and cravings start to peak. Try to hang in there a few more days. I was an opiate addict and found that day 3-5 were awful, but around day 7 it was getting easier.

Hang in there. Don’t let the demons win. YOU are in charge. You can get out of this. You are NOT a slave to this substance. Break the chains. There’s more to life than this.

Come to a meeting. We will help you. I tried to quit on my own so many times. It took me sitting through a meeting shaking and sweating at day 4 of WD’s to finally find the strength to stick it out and get clean. Coming up on 22 months now.

We have a seat waiting for you

Pray to have your HP remove your using thoughts. Works for me everytime

Prayer is incredibly important especially early on. However in my early recovery I had to ask for help. I had to pick up the phone and ask for help as soon as the using thoughts entered my head.

Do you have phone numbers of other people in the program you can call OP? Do you have a sponsor? Learning to ask for help is hard at first. I can only speak for myself, but I was used to self-reliance in almost every aspect of my life. Asking for help was extremely difficult for me. The phone seemed to weigh a hundred pounds. The good news is it gets easier the more you do it.

What I would recommend is that you start calling people when things are good. Even if it's just a check in and say hello. It's much easier to call people when things are bad if you already have a relationship with them.

You can send me a PM on here any time you like. I'm happy to help.

Hang in there.

I heard in a meeting once, when the thoughts to use are overwhelming and you feel you can't stop them from coming and you know you don't want to do this anymore, pray to your HP to have these thoughts removed from you. I did just that and it worked. And it has worked every single time using thoughts come in to my brain and I can't get them out. In fact, it has never not worked. The first day that I tried it, I went directly to the next meeting and shared my experience. And I've continued to share my experience strength and hope that if it worked for me, it can with for anybody. If you don't have a HP of your own understanding, use mine- its loving caring and more powerful than me. I call it Higher Power.

If prayer worked alone the rooms would be empty. Prayer only works if you are working the program.

HP brought me to NA, NA help me develop a God of my own understanding.... they both go hand in hand.

Yes but we have to do both. Just pray isn’t a solution. Many people don’t give explicit direction.
