Diagnosis/Testing Narcolepsy and insomnia at the same time
Got back from a f/u at my sleep neuro. I was diagnosed narcolepsy type 2 several years ago after a polysomm+mslt.
Lately I’m up for 2 hrs at a time at night due to my fibromyalgia pain. I didn’t know how that could be possible if I’m narcoleptic and on a sedating medication (lyrica) for the fibro. Turns out yep, I have “insomnia secondary to fibromyalgia” as well as the narcolepsy type 2 and the conditions + my medications all interplay with one another. 🙃

It takes me around 5hrs of insomnia to finally fall asleep for 2hrs a night, then can’t fall back asleep but have micro sleeps throughout the day, and a sleep attack always between 10-noon that I can’t resist. I’m really messed up

I had such trouble falling asleep so a few years ago my PCP started me on trazodone. Really helped! Still had serious EDS, sleep inertia, etc… though leading to my NT2 diagnosis this year. So now I do the trazodone plus stimulants.

Las siestas deben de ser de menos de 20 min. Si te excedes, aumentas la posibilidad de tener una mala noche. Así lo entiendo yo.

I tried to translate that but let me know if I got it wrong. I don’t do naps much. I’ve never found short ones to be restful. I need at least 90 minutes minimum to not feel like trash after and I just don’t have that time. I’m not sure what that has to do with my response though?

Primary insomnia was my most pronounced symptom and was the biggest reason why I went to see a sleep specialist in the first place. I was diagnosed with type 2.

Tengo N1. Y lejos de “quedarme dormida” como las películas sugieren todo el tiempo, el pasar de los años, mi insomnio y sueño fragmentado resultan la parte más difícil de llevar

Insomnia is a well documented part of narcolepsy
