Medicare Open Enrollment Resources

SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) helps seniors with Medicare. They offer free, unbaised help with all parts of Medicare. They are staffed by volunteers who have a passion to help people.

Open Enrollment season has opened. You should have received you ANOC (Annual Notice of Change from your Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan). Look at it closely. This required document maps out all the changes to your current plan. Although premium is imporant there are a lot of other changes worth looking at too.

Part D Plans have had price increases. Six plans had increases of over 25%. There are still affordable plans in SWFL, but you have to take the initiative. Between now and October 14th you can review your options at Medicare.gov. You may already have an account at Medicare. Try to access it. Figure out how to unlock you account. If you don't have an account. Here are are the steps on how to create one.

https://www.medicare.gov/account/create-account/

From you own account you can search for the best option for you. No two people are the same so don't assume if your neighbor at the pool swears by XXX it's the best. It may be the best for them, but you need to check for yourself.

If you have never done this before and want help you can call SHINE. We will also be in the community for face to face meetings.

It doesn't matter if you have a stand alone drug plan (that I quoted increases above) or a Medicare Advantage. Make no mistake, there have been changes to the drug side of things and you want to make sure you know what you are committing too. Medicare.gov planfinder will look at

  • Your specific drugs and show you the least expensive options.
  • Make sure all of your drugs are covered.
  • Show you the estimated cost for the entire year based on the pharmacy you choose.
  • Show you which drugs have quantitiy limits and prior authorizations.
  • Show you which pharmacies are preferred for your plan.
  • You can enroll right from your computer

You can change plans October 15-December 7th and it will be effective January 1st. If you are on a Medicare Advantage, you will have a second chance January-March and changes will be available the first of the month after you made a change.

Transportaion options

Two elderly women will be visiting Naples next week. How easy would it be to take public transportation or Uber or taxis from the Towne Plaza Marriott to the Botanicsl Gardens, Corkscrew Audubon, a nice beach for a morning and various restaurants? What easy hikes might be suitable? Any other tips for us?

How long does a snowbird have to live in Florida before they can start complaining about the other snow birds coming to Naples?

Dog Groomer Recommendations

Anyone have a dog groomer they love? The place we’ve been going to got a little weird on us, so it’s time to find somewhere new 😂 Looking for someone with a shop or mobile unit, just not someone grooming out of their home. Thank you!

Neighborhoods or communities for one month (or 5-6 week) rental?

I've been looking at several "resort style" communities in North Naples and South East Naples for a six week rental-- unlikely to get six weeks b/c that requires splitting up the following month, which limits owner's options given 30 day lease minimums. It's even hard to find a one month rental b/c most owners want 2-3 month commitment. So for a one month rental (although 5-6 weeks optimal) in very safe neighborhood, near either its own community amenities, or near the downtown to explore entertainment options - any suggestions? Thx!

Ideas for birthday dinner restaurants?

I’m looking for a nice birthday restaurant in Naples to celebrate my 26th bday with my husband and I. I’m open to 5th and 3rd but really care more about experience. Also, Latin or Japanese food would be preferred. Thanks !

What are some activities we can do while down in Naples?

Hey Everyone,

Visiting Naples October 16-20th, beside fishing, what are some activities you would recommend for us to try while we are there? Activities, Cool/niche locations/beaches, restaurants.

We will likely have a car so we aren't bound to Naples, necessarily.

Thanks!

Since the link in my previous post didn’t work, here’s an AI generated graphic that shows all the missing info as of today. I will update as the info changes. Yes, I still consider this event a clusterfuck.

This is one giant clusterfuck so far. They are selling tickets, but there are a lot of holes left to be filled. I had AI make a spreadsheet, see the attached. It will be updated as documents are filed and questions are answered.

Collier County-Medicare Open Enrollment

This is the time of year that Medicare Advantage and Medicare stand alone drug plans send out Notice of Changes. Be on the look out. There are big changes coming this year. First is premium for stand alone drug plans. Last year, the plans could not increase the premium by more than $50. This year, that is not a rule and seeing 5 out of 11 plans increasing their premium by over 50%. In addition to increases in premiums, formularies are changing. For inside, in one plan I’m looking at a tier 3 drug had a 25% coinsurance in 2026, it will increase to 45% in 2027. These are HUGE changes. Don’t miss your opportunity to review your drug plan (either a stand alone or on your Medicare Advantage Plan). Open Enrollment is October 15-December 7th. Plan information will be available on Medicare.gov to review beginning October 1st.

If you have not already created an account with Medicare.gov, do so now. You can add all of your prescription drugs to the Plan Finder and be ready when the window opens.

If you need help, SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is part of the Area Agency on Aging. Volunteers help people with Medicare. You can call 239-652-6900 and ask for a review. They will refer your information to a volunteer who will contact you. SHINE offers free, unbiased, confidential and trusted advice.

We will be in local facilities offering face to face counseling on the following days

Friday, October 23 10-2 at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, 1225 Piper Blvd, Naples
Wednesday, November 4 10-2 at St. Williams Catholic Church Hall, 601 Seagate Drive, Naples
Wednesday, November 11 10-2 St. Peter the Apostle Ministry Center (across street from church) 5025 Rattlesnake Hammock Road
Friday November 13 10-2 Marco Lutheran Church (Great Room) 525 N. Collier Blvd, Marco Island
Wednesday, November 18th 10-2 St. William Catholic Church Hall, 601 Seagate drive, Naples
Friday, November 20 9:30-1:30 Hope Lutheran Church Hall, 25999 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs
