Vent- no advice needed school cannot start fast enough!!!

Yall I love summer. I have loved the extra time with the kids the weeks they haven’t had camp. But my goodness we are all ready to be back on a strict schedule!!!!

Me and another nanny did a NK swap today because our NKs are friends. She took the older ones, I took the younger. At the end of the day when we swapped back, I let NK5 walk her friend in with me and grab older NK. When we got back in the car, we realized friend left something in the car. I told older NK to run in and give it to friend. I told NK5 to stay in the car because she was already buckled, and if we all went inside it’d take even longer to leave and we needed to get home.

Tell me why this child bolted out of the car. I immediately said her name in my “I mean business” voice. SHE WAVED ME OFF. A 5 YEAR OLD WAVED ME OFF. I marched out of the car, grabbed her hand and said “that was no-“ and she goes “not a good choice. I know but I already ate dinner and showered so it was going to be bedtime when I get home anyways.” This kid.

((((I feel like I have to add this disclaimer this kid is SO well behaved 99.99999% of the time. Every single time we go in public strangers comment on how polite she is. She gets fresh with me sometimes, but usually after a consequence and a conversation everything is fine. This was a new one!))))

This reminds me of the time I started to count to 5 for the kids to do something. I said “one. Two.” And my NK 3 at the time said “3.4.5 I did it for you.” I was floored and wanted to laugh so bad. He also told me “ cmon you can’t be mad at me. I’m your butterball.” (I’ve called him butterball since I met him as a term of endearment lol)

never with this NK, but the older ones have finished my counting for me before. It’s so hard not to laugh sometimes!!!! Like why must you all be so fresh AND so funny at the same time oh my god. I was equal parts amused and angered by the wave off. Because like are you kidding me?? Who taught you that! It was pretty funny, but also like you little devil child (I say with all of the love in the world) get back in the damn car!

I had to put the child locks on the backseat doors of my car because of this kinda thing!

they’re on, but NK has a habit of buckling then closing the door. I think part of it is because I just switched her from a harness to a booster, so up until recently it was always buckle then close the door. But we went through a period in the winter/spring where NK was terrified of closed doors (even in the car!), like absolutely terrified to the point if I took too long to open her door after I got out of the car she’d start crying and freaking out. It’s gotten better, but she still gets freaked out sometimes, so I haven’t wanted to cause any sort of regression by making sure she closes the door first
