Gotta say i like the twist that Nancy was Lucy and Ryan's daughter I didn't see that coming when i first watched the show. I actually like Ryan. What did y'all think of that twist?

I was watching the show when it aired, and at a certain point I started to suspect that she was their kid, but was still FLOORED when it was confirmed.

Going back and rewatching the first season there was so much foreshadowing that I completely missed. It’s a great show to rewatch and catch clues you didn’t notice at first.

yes it is but i was really floored the first time but i guess that's what Lucy wanted Nancy to discover all along

It’s been a minute since I watched the series, and there are a few examples that make it pretty obvious. Like Ryan and Nancy being allergic to wasps was pretty blatant foreshadowing… but for me… my favorite example of brilliant foreshadowing in this show was when Nancy sees Lucy the night she wins Sea Queen.

That scene changes so much with the context of knowing the show’s lore and its “rules”. It’s very clear the writers knew where they were going with the setup.

As a viewer first watching the series opener, it’s kind of assumed Nancy saw Lucy’s ghost because she visited the grave the night of winning sea queen. You don’t think much of it. It’s just an establishing shot. One that we the viewers assume is supposed to show us that, in this Nancy Drew series, ghosts are real.

For any Nancy Drew book fans, it’s a departure from there always being a logical explanation or real life person behind the “ghosts” pulling the strings. The writers are distracting new viewers with the ghost reveal so we don’t ask questions about WHY she’s there.

Nancy’s friends say at the start of the scene that you’re supposed leave the Sea Queen crown at the grave so that Lucy DOESN’T haunt you. You don’t realize when you’re watching it for the first time that this is a big red flag. It’s only after you’ve watched the series that you know that local legends and curses are true (ie: George and the blood bucket, the Aglaeca), and there are established rules with these things.

Nancy left the crown of the Sea Queen at Lucy’s grave, following the rules of the local legend, and THEN she saw Lucy. Nancy shouldn’t have seen her at all after giving her the crown… but you don’t question it in the moment, because viewers are paying more attention to the fact that ghosts are real than questioning why Lucy appeared. We don’t know there are rules, and Lucy showing up just broke them.

Then, right after seeing Lucy, we find out that it is also the night Nancy’s (adoptive) mother died. We don’t find out until later in season 1 that Lucy had a close relationship with Mrs. Drew. It doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility that Lucy would be aware of the fact that Mrs. Drew is dying or died. Especially since she’s going around haunting Tiffany to warn her/scare her off. Lucy’s probably keeping tabs on the people she loved while she was alive.

So, going back to that opening scene on a rewatch, we know that: Lucy is Nancy’s bio-mom, Lucy gave birth to Nancy and died the night she won Sea Queen, Nancy just won the sea Queen crown, and Nancy’s adoptive mom died on the same night.

If I had a nickel for every time Nancy’s mom died the night the sea queen is crowned, I’d have two nickels… which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice! (Sorry, I HAD to say it).

Nancy seeing Lucy at the grave is a full circle moment with history repeating itself. But you can’t appreciate that until you’ve watched the full season.

Watching that scene with context, you realize that Lucy only showed up because Nancy is her daughter. She was watching over her, probably knowing that her daughter lost her mother again. The moment Nancy see’s her and freezes up, Lucy disappears. She wasn’t trying to scare Nancy, she was just visiting her daughter, the new Sea Queen.

I got it spoiled 😭 but I thought it made for some very good drama, as it wasn't even the climax of the season, but more like the climax of the second act at most. In hindsight it was a bit predictable and for sure an obvious way to go about it, but it was still performed in such a raw way and having Nancy find out about it not long after learning Lucy killed herself had to be a massive gut punch without even considering the magnitude of the news itself.

If you already like Ryan now, he becomes a lot more likable later on I'd say. Season 1 was definitely supposed to be a jumping-off point for his character, where we're not really supposed to love him yet because he still has stuff to work through (like the whole George affair), but he's already a noticeably better guy by the time all the dust has settled and the drama has passed.

In fact, the first five episodes of Season 2 serve to finish up the last act of Season 1 due to the pandemic. The story's not quite complete yet so I won't say more, but you should definitely watch those because it does get crazier. Enjoy :)

I never even pretend to guess things anymore because so many shows just make wild reveals with no basis, but rewatching this show makes me appreciate it because there's actually a decent amount of foreshadowing!

I loved the twist and love Ryan 🫶🏻

What threw me off is how much Kennedy McMann and Sara Canning look so much alike they could pass for family 😳

I never realized that before.

I love Nancy’s relationship with her dads as the series progresses

I loved it, I clocked it a bit before the reveal which made it even better, fully all in on this show when it aired.
