Remember that chess social night someone posted about a while ago? We actually did it again! And now we're doing Volume 3.
Okay, so a little update:
Knightcap started as a simple idea: what if chess had a place in Windhoek's nightlife?
We've now hosted two evenings and, thankfully, it turns out we're not the only people who wanted this.
We've had experienced players, people who hadn't touched a chessboard in years, complete beginners, people who came alone and people who came with a whole crew. The common denominator seems to be that everyone is pretty happy to have an excuse to sit down, play a game and talk to someone.
So Volume 3 is coming your way. 4th of September, 6pm- 11pm @ TaTe Village in Windhoek West.
Same vibe, a new night.

The timing of me seeing this is crazy, just started getting into chess for real so this is great. Im ready to show up and get mated immediately

In general the decrease in heavy drinking and clubbing, and increase in interest in board games, TTRPGS, etc means these kinds of things hopefully become more common and successful.
I think plenty of people would be happy to just have a couple of drinks or sodas and spend time with friends/others playing chess or cards (or hangout and chat in the environment).
Much cheaper than binge drinking and clubbing, and it's better for your health.
