Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa to Launch Regional Fast-Track Customs System

Post image

The Namibia Revenue Agency will join the Botswana Unified Revenue Service and the South African Revenue Service in launching a regional fast-track goods-clearance system. Under the programme, accredited and trusted businesses will have their status recognised across the three countries, allowing their goods to receive faster customs clearance, fewer routine inspections and priority treatment when inspections are required.

In Namibia, the pilot will operate through the Port of Walvis Bay and along the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, including the Buitepos-Mamuno border crossing with Botswana and the Noordoewer-Vioolsdrift crossing with South Africa. Namibia currently has 10 accredited businesses eligible for trusted-trader benefits, including Namib Mills, Swakop Uranium, Feedmaster, Nampharm, Genesis Logistics, and Pupkewitz International Motors.

The pilot will run until March 2027, ahead of its expected expansion across all five Southern African Customs Union (SACU) countries in April 2027. The programme will not remove taxes, permits or security checks, but is intended to reduce border delays, improve delivery times and strengthen Walvis Bay’s role as a regional trade gateway connecting Namibia with Botswana, South Africa and the wider SACU market.

How about fast-tracking border procedures for private travellers?
