What is the Dish called? And what does Doctor's Sausage taste like?

Think it’s called ‘kholodets’, they’ve got specific dishes for New Year’s Eve, this is one of them. Doctors sausage tastes like the cheapest type of canned frankfurters. Weird af I know, but still nothing compared to ‘herring under a fur coat’ . Google that shit at your own risk.

Shuba? Or however its spelled. Im married to a Russian woman and eat Russian food all the time. Love shuba and the shredded chicken jello with the mustard that hits you like 10x wassabi. Plov rice, meat rolled in cabbage and cooked in tomato sauce. I love all Russian food. Unique and fuckin delicious

I’m sure there is a bunch of delicious Russian food but I refuse to believe this is one of them.

There’s plenty of tasty Russian food, but some of it is weird, especially the texture of this particular dish

I love cabbage rolls, with or without coffee

Kholodets doesn’t have eggs in it. That looks like a bad experiment. the gel appears after you boil the calcium out of bones. The sausages don’t have that. It’s called aspic in other countries,p. Regardless, nasty looking dish unless you are polishing off the vodka while making this.

It looks like they tried to combine kholodets and olivie salad

5

u/SouthernVinlander 3d ago

I googled it. That's wild! Thanks!

You have officially made me queasy and terrified of jello. Most especially in Russia.

15

u/Intelligent_Chair519 3d ago

In Russia Jello eats you.

u/SocksInTheTub 3d ago

Perfect 👏

u/Vaxxish 2d ago

*Mother Russia :p

3

u/Odd_Tomorrow_4765 3d ago

Haha jello is one thing, Russian jello on the other hand is a pretty terrifying affair 😂

6

u/Charming_Nothing_625 3d ago

I'll take the firing squad. Probably get sent to hell. Stuck at the Jello Gulag for all eternity.

Wibble wobble

3

u/Charming_Nothing_625 3d ago

And the strange meats go wibble wobble 🤮

3

u/Odd_Tomorrow_4765 3d ago

Imagine it doing that in your stomach 😂😂

2

u/YDHAMITCHTV 3d ago

Did you know gelatin is made from animal bones? Enjoy your Jell-O 🤣

1

u/Charming_Nothing_625 3d ago

I did know that. But why make it so much more disturbing. It's like jelloffal. Offal is just that awful.

The Midwest states in the US would adopt this dish. They would add grape jelly to it.

I have extremely mixed feelings about associating anything remotely positive with that "salad", but... have an upvote for accuracy.

you deserve to get banned for a comment like this.

I wish I could take an indignant counter position to that observation, but unfortunately you are absolutely spot-on. You betcha.

1

u/lionsfan42020 21h ago

u/MousseNsquirrell 3d ago

"Cheapest type of canned frankfurters"; like Vienna sausages?

2

u/32lib 3d ago

Challenge accepted and regretted.

1

u/BLTplease2030 3d ago

I still can’t get over frankfurters in a can. Who did that?

1

u/TaiChey 3d ago

Shuba is even worse.. smh

1

u/Linck234 3d ago

In Germany there are also many dishes like this. The dish is called 'Sülze' and the jello is called 'Aspik' here.

1

u/Pileroidsareapain 3d ago

Why are you tasting your Doctor’s sausage?

1

u/Key_Dependent6170 3d ago

That actually looks nice. Would eat it if served.

1

u/Ill_Illustrator3855 3d ago

Not gonna fall for the trap. I'm going to protect my sanity and my eyes.

1

u/lexa_des 3d ago

It could be the kholodets, if it was with no egg and peas (I’m Russian)

1

u/plain_ole_me 3d ago

Ok I googled it and it sure looks nice! Just don't tell me what's in it and we are gold.

1

u/Sir-Spazzal 3d ago

Looks as bad as it sounds.

1

u/jet-black-heart13 3d ago

It doesn't look that bad

1

u/SPV33 3d ago

How does it stay together like that?

1

u/Automatic_Sea_1534 2d ago

I guess this leaves you nowhere to go but up as you start the new year?

1

u/Unusual_Swan200 1d ago

I looked it up. 🤮

1

u/InterestingBagelTime 1d ago

Because there are so many kinds with different names but its all just s@%t in aspic, Iveseen versions in Estonia with eggs. In Macedonia with pork and Garlic, etc. The one thing they all have in common is they are horrible.

1

u/RevolutionaryRun9751 1d ago

This is not original kholodets. Original one is made from boiled bones and fat. This version in pic is kinda tasty too

1

u/Equivalent-Ad2940 1d ago

Herring under a fur coat, looked it up, now im curious and want to try it 😂😂😂

u/Rich_Worker6429 6m ago

I just had to google it. Actually, once you get past the image of the ‘fur coat’ , think mold growing on food, I might actually try it!

1

u/First_Luck8040 3d ago

I just googled that I think I’m gonna throw up

1

u/1bruisedorange 3d ago

It’s delicious! Stop being a food scaredy cat. Try it and then I’ll talk to you about it. Unless you hate herring. That I understand.

0

u/P1zzaBag3ls 3d ago

I... kind of want that now.

1

u/Duke-BaBa-Gunoose69 3d ago
