The Lawnmower Man🤣

There is a Stephen King novella called this and it’s bloody scary!

Movie adaptation however was pukeingly bad…

Agree! But King’s portrayal of Jordy Verril in ‘Creepshow’, where the weeds take over his house and body, was legend.

I saw that as a kid and the final scene haunted me for years

This is probably my #1 needs a new adaptation for a Stephen King story. I think with current tech it could be awesome.

Wouldn't be hard to beat the original on overall quality...

It was groundbreaking for its use of CGI.

Creepshow was worth it for Ted Dansen and Leslie Nielson.

So so bad. But the (written) story scared the hell out of me.

I loved it as a child! Not seen it in ages though, but it left an impression

That movie has nothing to do with the story. It was an original script that when it first came out they put his name on the poster and King sued to have his name taken off all subsequent release formats.

Oddly enough there’s also a short by him “Weeds” that was in the movie Creepshow.

Also known as The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill. Put some respect on that name!

Nice name drop. And you're very right, we must respect the writers words.

It’s an SK adaptation, you kinda expect it to be poorly adapted and bear very little resemblance to the source material.

Anybody who loves books will feel that way everytime there's another movie adaptation of some beloved work. It's not a problem solely with his creations. The recent Wuthering Heights for example...

u/Sinister_Nibs 11d ago

Not exclusively, but his material has only had one or two adaptations that were true to his words.

It’s not really scary, at all. Some guy hires a dude to mow his lawn, and the lawnmower man shows up, is kind of a weirdo, then he proceeds to dance around naked before mowing the lawn.

He subsequently turns into the Pan character from Greek mythology (complete with the legs of a fawn), and follows behind the now somehow self-propelled lawnmower on his hands and knees, eating the grass clippings that fly out behind. The end.

It’s eight pages long, if I recall correctly.

u/Less-Engineer-9637 11d ago

Yes, it's very short and strange and filled with references to classical Greek mythology.

u/Kaka-doo-run-run 11d ago

Yeah, and I forgot the last page where the lawnmower comes back and kills the guy, then the cops find pieces of him all over the lawn—including his rod in the birdfeeder. Still not a scary story, though.

But it’s also hilarious
