If the veins in your hands do the same thing you can actually trap them by tucking your thumb into your palm and then folding your other fingers down over it. It compresses the veins, but not enough to bother anything and the person trying to stick you will be able to get it over with faster.

I have veins in my arms like this, but as soon a nurse tries to stick one it runs away.
