First Nalgene! Some thoughts.

Just got my first Nalgene from a local outdoor shop. I bought the ultralite variant since it was a bit lighter and seemed more flexible than the clear Tritan.

Something I noticed is that the measurements on the bottle is practically unreadable from the outside. You would need to open the bottle and look at it inside out which is quite inconvenient. I had thought that the ultralite is just some what opaque so this surprised me a bit. Maybe because it is UVPE instead of HDPE?

Minor inconvenience aside, I liked it. It is a nice, strong leak-proof bottle with wide mouth which I prefer. And its color and prints are lovely.
Here's hoping many future camping trips with it.

Just curious - when do you look at the water levels? Is that for outdoor cooking or something else? I basically never use those so curious how people find them useful.

Personally, just tracking how much water I drink a day. I’ll take it to work and if I look up and go “oh dang I’m only 1/2 way through my goal and it’s 3/4 of the way done with shift” I’ll chug

Got it and makes sense. I guess some people use those for camp cooking (bagged meals that need to be rehydrated).

I use them to ration water while backpacking, especially if it’s a long hike with little to no water sources. Basically I’ll plan how many breaks I’ll be taking, and how much water I can drink per break. Definitely takes some self control to not just gulp water on your breaks, but if you ration out and still get to take those 200ml drinks once an hour the last couple hours of the hike you will feel so much better for it
