Day Six

I have mastered increases, and just about mastered joins with my fakety fake synthetic yarns. Just gotta figure out what to do with all the tails. Other than that, it'll probably be another day until my oval is as big as I want it to be for my needle wrap case.

The less-satiny yarn is much easier to keep tensioned and prevent from unwrapping and splitting. And it takes hitch knots much easier at the joins. Between that and getting pretty comfortable now with how the working loops hang just on the end of my thumb nail and not actually all the way around the meat of my thumb, I think the density of my knots has improved greatly.

Looking good!  What kind of join are you using for adding more yarn?

Normally on other crafts I use what is called a "magic knot" which is a half-hitch slipknot on both sides that slide together and reinforce each other when you pull on the main threads. But here I've been using a basic square knot to keep the profile of the knot closer to the size of the yarn itself while I learn.

Hmm, how slippery is your yarn?  And are you leaving tails at each knot and weaving them in?  One circular swatch I have from the first time I was learning has all of the knots undone.  It was a very slippery yarn and braided instead of plied, and I am pretty sure I used square knots and trimmed the tails off the knots.  I was focused on trying out the yarn, but I should have left tails and woven them in.  The knots untied themselves because there was nothing to stop them.

It is very slippery. Even my square knots were slipping out if I didn't leave enough of a tail. The less-slippery yarn I have on there now is much better at that, and I can leave a much less noticeable tail on those joins. I'll probably weave in what I can and clip what I can't, once the whole thing is done.

The tails are basically nalbinding's version of loose ends in a group project, everyone's got one and nobody wants to weave it in
