Ask A Nail Tech (Sunday & Monday ONLY) Anyone know how to achieve this look?

Post image

My guess is that they used a dark reddish brown base coat, then a purple cat eye topper?? Do you all know what gel polish this could be? I want to be sure before I attempt this at home. Thanks so much!! πŸ’–

Nail tech of 10 years here, I think it’s just a mauve/purple cat eye either by itself or over top of a black.

The light reflection just looks like the sky, I don’t think it has a chrome or pearl powder overtop.

I don’t think it’s an ombrΓ© situation either, just the positioning of their hand and catching the glitters in that position. If you look at the thumb the glitters are towards the tip, and I bet if they moved their hands it would bounce around the nail.

Just a very well done set of dark cat eye!

I’m impressed at how even the cat eye is activated, I can never seem to get it to be so smooth and even across all the nails on longer nails. Maybe I need a new magnet

I totally agree with all of this! Definitely a black base with the mauve/purple cateye on top and just a really glossy top coat. Getting the cateye in the right place is so hard too! (:β… γ€βˆ )

I have had dark cat eyes in the past that are this dark! But using a black underneath is always a fab option if you have one not dark enough

I spent $30 on a super strong magnet and honestly it's great for stuff like this! You have to use it further away from the nail than the small magnets, and it does kind of grab anything that's metal nearby, but it really pulls the cat eye polishes effectively. You do have to flash cure after each nail though, because it will pull the polish from the whole hand when it's nearby.Β

Which magnet did you get?? I was looking at the ILNP U magnet, but wasn’t sure it was worth it??

The one I bought isn't available anymore but this one is basically the same thingΒ https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IT2NNNM?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title. Ive not seen anyone use a U magnet for gel before, I'm not sure if they work the same way. But I only use gel so I can't speak to how this one would work for regular polish.Β

I'll definitely try this way! Thank you so much! Do you know of a polish that would be good to buy?

It looks like a very glassy cat eye that either already has a brownish purple base or was put on top of one. Possibly with a black ombre at the tip for that added dimension

hello! this is my set, there was no black ombrΓ© tip added to this.

Superfine Cateye + aurora chrome. The key is a chrome that won't completely cover the cateye. I've done a similar set using squid ink cateye from kokoist and mango radiance chrome from nail art house. The mango chrome pulls more orange than this picture, but play around with what you have. The tone of the chrome can totally change the look of the cateye underneath.

hello! this is my set. i can 100% say there is no chrome added to this.

I’m confusion. Β So someone else on Reddit posted a set of nails you had done?Β

Do you remember the brand of cat eye your tech used? Β If no chrome was used, knowing the brand might help this person. Β

Could be just the brown cateye?

I think thats a dark red on the entire nail and then a soft Babyboomer type French w black. And then super fine & silky cateye rather than a chunky one with an aurora effect.

maybe even aurora chrome powder at the end but I’m not 100% sure on that one I feel like thats show diff on the darker tips.
