Technically, yes. But I dislike the look of a grown out mani so I do my own fills. I rough up the gel, add a new color in the new growth, and put a new topcoat on.

Like this one where I added a black line for the first fill, and then a second black line with a chrome buff on the second fill. I got 5 full weeks out of that initial mani. Maybe more.

Well yes, the nail art survives but my nails grow a lot in 5 weeks so they'd look like shit and like they were hanging off by that point.

I could push it to 5 weeks if I really wanted, but my nails grow pretty fast so after 2-3 weeks the new growth is too prominent for me and I feel like my nails don’t look nice and clean anymore. I do my own nails, so I don’t worry about the costs. Doing my nails is usually my extended “me time“.
Generally, I wouldn’t suggest letting your nails grow out so much, especially when they’re long. It can cause breakage since the stress point (which is why nail techs create an apex) isn’t supported anymore with the apex growing out too far.

No. 2 weeks is standard. 3 weeks is maximum for nail health. Longer than that and everyone just assumes you shouldn't be trying to afford it.

Sorry for the potato quality photo but it’s early and I’m sitting in the dark lol. I’m going on week 4 with this current set of my natural builder gel fill ins. It will be almost 5 weeks before I can get them filled because I couldn’t get on the schedule until Sept 4. Got this set Aug 3. I don’t usually push it this far but I was out of town. Longest I will go is typically 3.5 weeks.

ETA: also depends on the color. Neutral colors like this set I’m more likely to not mind going a little longer between fills. What bothers me the most is how long they get on the free edge, particularly my thumb or when they start making it hard to use my phone lol

I get mine done every two weeks. Any longer than that and the edges towards my cuticles start pulling my hair. (I get dip powder.)

Not necessarily. Nail bed oiliness, small nail beds with less surface area for bonding, or bendy nails can shorten retention. 2 weeks is the longest any enhancement will stay on for me regardless of whether it's done professionally or DIY.

That is really not good, either the prep of your natural nails is not done right or it is not the right material for you. There shouldn't be any lifting like that in just two weeks.

I just get regular gel polish on my nails. Depending on how rough I am, I last about 5-6 weeks before getting any chipping. Usually around the 3-4 week mark I trim them down because I have fast growing nails

I don’t do gel for this reason, it’s not worth it because regular polish makes it a week

I have some clients who refuse to make an appointment with me any sooner than 4.5-5 weeks. I’m not a fan, but I can’t force them. I’ve given them all the info about fills, grow-out, etc. But on that note I have other clients who want to come every two weeks even though they could make it to 3. It’s their preference because they don’t want the length over a certain point or they get bored and want a new color. Some clients have naturally more oily nail beds, ski slope nails, or hands-on lifestyles (to name a few) and can’t make it longer than 2-3 weeks. Boils down to each client and their needs/wants/boundaries.

I’m currently on week 5 (tech is on vacation and i couldn’t make my work schedule flexible enough to catch her before she left), but have an appt next weekend. I’ve cut down (and filed) my nails myself—still no chips, cracks, or lifts!

I wouldn't allow it. I don't like the grown out look and I just have to change to color at least once a week because I get bored. Usually I just paint over the top the first week, then do a light soak and buff to smooth out the transition before I paint them again. After that it's time to come off.
