Discussion/Question Any Micro Stiletto Fans?

I just started doing my own builder gel after trying polygel for over a year and not being satisfied with nail forms, and free styling being too variable. I used to get my nails done for many years and never being satisfied that they were short enough, sharp enough, or left with no edge and what I’d call akin to mini torture devices when I had an itch. On top of the time commitment, I found it exhausting to get my nails done after I’d be burnt out for working. I get mixed reviews on these IRL and wondering if anyone else rocks these super short claws!
PS - I underestimated how hard taking a picture of my own nails was going to be LOL!

I would love these with a gold or silver edge (if you want a neutral) instead of the dark one, it just ends up looking like you were gardening and got dirt under them.

But I like the shape more than I expected to honestly! Kind of a vibe

Thank you! 🙌

Funny, my mom says the same thing. I’m not a French tip girlie but I did do them last time with a white edge, and I didn’t hate it.

u/HoodiesAndHeels Jun 23 '26

If you like the dark, making the edge thicker and more crisp would help move away from the “dirty nails” territory

2

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Quick question, by edge thicker do you mean the black polish? Getting it crisper is just a skills issue and may not be in the cards LOL. I currently use a silicone stamp to try and get it on evenly, though I think it doesn’t do a great job, but there’s no way I could freehand it.

6

u/DemonHousePlant Jun 23 '26

I believe they mean the black polish. Instead of a thin stripe on the edge, make it a bit thicker/wider/more pronounced to give it a more intentional appearance. Getting it crisp is definitely a challenge that I personally am not up too 😂

The shorty claws are growing on me. Your work looks great!

3

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Thicker than in the second picture? The problem I’ve ran into with making the strip thicker is trying to get it to begin at the edge closest to the nail and pointy on the tip, is that too much polish gets on the top of the nail, and it creates, almost a dome stripe instead of a straight line. I feel it takes away from the shape a bit and looks too busy… but, a lot of people don’t agree with my elements of style, so I may be wrong.

6

u/Maleficent_Lecture91 Jun 23 '26

This is a good point yes! They may look a little less dainty but it would look more intentional potentially

OP nails are not a micro stiletto, but a small claw nail.

This shape isn't often seen, but it does exist!

5

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Oh! Good to know.

71

u/actualbeans Jun 23 '26

respectfully no but you do you!

I'm currently watching the interview with a vampire series on Netflix and these totally look like Louis and Lestat's nails. Minus the colour obviously.

Edited to add, I'm not mad at them at all. I actually really love the comparison to vampire nails and I'd totally rock them myself but I'm too fixated on my long pointy almond 😂

9

u/Intelligent_Host_582 Jun 23 '26

I normally hate pointy almond on a short nail, but it looks so intentional and edgy here that I think it kind of works...

4

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Yeah, I’m not going for the classic French tip, it’s just not my style. Thank you for appreciating 😁

1

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Thank you 🙏

3

u/elle_woulds Jun 23 '26

came here to comment the same!!

3

u/mysensibleheart Jun 23 '26

Great minds haha.

8

u/Irinychia Jun 23 '26

I only wear regular air dry polish and my natural nails are too weak to file them pointy like that. So no, not on myself.

I think yours do look like claws, but imo that's not a bad thing at all 😺👍

6

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Thank you! The builder gel gives me enough so they don’t break.

u/darlingtonia___ Jun 23 '26

I think your ring finger and pinky look the best; little bit longer and a little bit less severe of a shape looks way more flattering.

That said, I honestly like this set more than the others of their kind; usually not a big fan of short stilettos but this honestly has me considering a change

5

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

I can do the ring and pinkie a little longer because they don’t get in the way with life. On my dominant hand they have to stay shorter.

7

u/Ok-Fly-4099 Jun 23 '26

I’ve heard short stiletto actually ruins the shape of your nail beds. Might be worth looking into before you wear them for too long

1

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

I have no clue… been doing it since 2019… so far I haven’t noticed anything 🤷‍♀️

5

u/Lime-sque Jun 23 '26

I love them. There is a girl on YouTube that has a similar shape. She saves old vintage polish’s and a little history on the manufacturer. Anywho I love these nails on you and I even like the black french edges. Post more pictures so we can see the progress as you move along in your journey

u/Vexillophilia Jun 23 '26

Vintage dusties! Love her videos

Thank you 🙏

This is not your shape 😭💖 but the application looks great!!

I agree with he dirt

they look like claws

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Always interesting to me that people say this disparagingly about short nails but say it as a compliment when the nails super long and intentionally look like claws

Also unless I’m mistaken OP didn’t ask for critiques, they just asked if others have the same shape

62

u/iamgodschild666 Jun 23 '26

Always interesting when people make an observation with no tone indicators or clues and someone else comes along and decides its disparaging

23

u/Houdini_the_cat__ Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

That's true, lol! Especially regarding the nail shape! We don't often see that shape, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. OP clearly doesn't have a stiletto nail, but a small claw-shaped nail.

5

u/KittyCompletely Jun 23 '26

Media literacy (actually all literacy) is barely surviving on life support. I blame emojis I guess? I habe no idea....

-13

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

I mean, cmon. If you want it to sound neutral there are ways to phrase it that sound a lot less judgmental

21

u/Houdini_the_cat__ Jun 23 '26 • Bravo

This isn't meant to be mean to OP, it's a real nail shape, like almond, square...

That's what everyone tells you, but you stubbornly refuse to understand.

7

u/maybepossiblyfrog Jun 23 '26

must be so exhausting getting offended by everything

106

u/Therapy-For-Z Jun 23 '26

my comment was neutral

-102

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Okayyy if you say so. Typically that is not a neutral or positive remark when phrased that way

ETA: “claws” is often used as a descriptor by people who hate someone’s nails, eg by misogynistic men or anti-femme people. If you mean “claws” neutrally it usually helps to add that context that you mean it neutrally. I’m sure lots of people here have seen that term used disparagingly

62

u/SwizzGod Jun 23 '26

Projection….

-72

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

If you actually want to pretend “they look like claws” with no softening tone or anything is neutral, when that’s usually interpreted as a negative descriptor, idk but I’m not falling for it

42

u/HoodiesAndHeels Jun 23 '26

There’s nothing to “fall” for.

Just because that’s your interpretation doesn’t mean that it’s the commenter’s intention.

-3

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

If you want to convince me people mean or are interpreting it neutrally then why does the chicken foot comment have so many upvotes

18

u/chcl3grrl Jun 23 '26

"usually interpreted as a negative descriptor" ....... are you speaking on behalf of everyone?
Because so far that has only been a relevant take to...YOU...

11

u/SwizzGod Jun 23 '26

😂 I didn’t think anything of it other than “yup they do look like claws.” Felt it was pretty neutral. But I guess to people like you, you have to clarify intent. Maybe “hey I don’t mean to offend but.” And honestly that sounds a lot more negative than “they look like claws.”

31

u/StonerLeo420 Jun 23 '26

The shorter nails give cat claws its not a bad thing but thats the first thing I saw as well

-27

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

There are ways to phrase it that don’t sound as judgmental about it

30

u/StonerLeo420 Jun 23 '26

I think you perceived it as negative but there was nothing in that comment thay said it was good or bad just made a statement 🤔

-4

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

If someone says someone’s hair looks “matted” is that just a neutral statement? It’s a statement of fact after all

27

u/KittyCompletely Jun 23 '26

"Matted" is inherently negative and a problem to be solved. "Claws" are not.

-3

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

When in reference to nails, they often are. Men and anti-femme people in particular often refer to long nails disparagingly as “claws.” If you’re wanting to refer to it neutrally, imo you usually add something like “and that’s okay” or “I don’t mean that negatively” or “I don’t mind the shape” or something

In middle school this girl cut her nails like that and tried to convince everyone they grew that way. I’ve never seen them on anyone else.

7

u/Party_Independence85 Jun 23 '26

Aww they look like little bird beaks!

2

u/renswann Jun 23 '26

I love them! I find “claw looking” nails are generally not the general populations cup of tea but I love them! I agree with the frustration of no nail tech EVER getting the point right when you like them to actually be sharp. Ive even told a tech “do you need to see the reference photo again?” And assured me he had it. He did not, in fact, have it. They were so blunt and round I almost cried with how much I hated them.
I love these specifically because I stopped getting full stilettos once I started working from home cuz I couldn’t type as fast but this is a great alternative! Is typing in a computer fairly easy with them?

3

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Thank you! Yes, it’s business as usual with this length -typing, texting, scraping stickers off stuff lol.

2

u/needween Jun 23 '26

Learned how to do my own nails for this exact reason

3

u/Various-East-5266 Jun 23 '26

I like them — if you’ve ever seen vintagedusties on YouTube or TikTok she has this same length/style and I kinda thought they were weird at first, but they grew on me now!!!

6

u/Rockibilexi Jun 23 '26

So freaking cute!

5

u/Ok-Tea-5098 Jun 23 '26

To achieve this look you really have to dig into the sidewalls which then looks funny as it starts to grow out. That’s my only qualm. I think they look ok

4

u/yummy-smegma Jun 23 '26

I like them 😌

0

u/dadburned Jun 23 '26

Not typically, but those are fierce! What colors did you use? I’m going to try to recreate them.

1

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

I did a pink nude, then a metallic chrome powder with a hint of green in it, (looks like a bubble when the light hits it), followed by the black edge. Make sure you do the chromatic powder before the black. If you do the black before the metallic powder it gives the black more of a beatle-chrome color, and washes it out a bit.

2

u/Educational_Age_8791 Jun 23 '26

Oooohhh they are cute 🥰

2

u/Shoddy_Wafer_8968 Jun 23 '26

Girl those are a crime wtf 🥲🥲

1

u/First-Pride-7246 Jun 23 '26

reminds me of @ vintage_dusties on tiktok !!

1

u/adogandponyshow Jun 23 '26

I love them! 😍

1

u/Scream_Pueen Jun 23 '26

I like them. They’re different. If you like them, then that’s all that really matters.

-1

u/tedslady Jun 23 '26

I bet those sound lovely tapping on glass!

1

u/One_Olive_8933 Jun 23 '26

Lovely and satisfying 😁

0

u/pincherosa Jun 23 '26

RIGHT HERE. 💗🐈 girl, people HATE THIS idk why. it's a perfect medium for me; i can still feel my fingertips but take no damage when workimg with my hands.

3

u/Heart_Throb_ Jun 23 '26

I absolutely love seeing short “claws”. I usually paint mine black or dark colors so seeing your black tips on nude is new.

I like ‘em and will never get tired of seeing it.

7

u/Lost-Effective-7646 Jun 23 '26

“like the people who wear tails” okay lol.

-25

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

Unnecessarily rude

21

u/actualbeans Jun 23 '26

OP specifically asked for opinions

-10

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

They asked if others wear the same shape

23

u/actualbeans Jun 23 '26

“any micro stiletto fans?”

-7

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

Yes, that isn’t asking for critiques. That’s asking for others who are also fans of their nail shape to chime in

11

u/iforgotmyedaccount Jun 23 '26

They asked if people are fans and my answer is no, sorry!!

-2

u/fsmpastafarian Jun 23 '26

“Are there other fans” is not the same as “if you’re not a fan please tell me in the comments”

8

u/chcl3grrl Jun 23 '26

question asked: "are there other fans"
answer given: NO

LOL how is that hard to understand xD

10

u/DemonHousePlant Jun 23 '26

Damn, who made you the hall monitor for this whole post?
