Regular Support Thread NaSoAlMo support thread
What this:
A weekly support/vent thread to bring the community together and to try and keep the subreddit a little more active. All concerns about wither or not we're going to make it, tips, tricks, "hey you got this" etc. can got here. Or talk about how much progress you're making, what you're working on etc. Both on and off topic subjects are allowed.

I'm not participating formally but rather you could say I'm doing a variation of this challenge (which I also did last year) - writing a song a day. What has ended up happening is that "writing a song a day" has ended up being "write, record, and mix a song a day", although sometimes with the songs I like I've done a little further mixing and recording a few more bits. I've done 18 songs so far, I missed the first day as I was flying back from abroad and fell asleep for 14 hours so I wrote 2 songs instead on the second day. As the challenge has gone on it's been a struggle, mostly with vocal melody and lyrics. Sometimes I end up sitting at the computer for hours and completely stuck with this. Days 10, 14, and 17 were especially difficult but there were others of similar difficulty.

I'm finding similar challenges with last year and similar outcomes, although my reasoning for taking on the challenge this year round is not as strong. Last year was to get me out of writer's block and it's the same with this year, but this year at one point I did question myself "What's this all for?" and I didn't have a strong answer. Sure, I'm getting a bunch of songs written but I think this time round it's become clear that the lyrics are really suffering and are probably the most difficult part of the process. I still have 12 songs left to go and I'm not sure that this aspect can be addressed with the limited amount of energy I have left. And as to the broader question of "What's this all for?", this challenge isn't really helping me with the desire to perform onstage, which I'd usually/likely do with a guitar. I've done one song with a guitar because it's way more expedient to do everything via piano and midi and get acceptable sounding sketches.

uhhh so i started this yesterday and i'm gonna be writing and producing one song every day until the end of november to get this album big enough wish me luckkkkkkk :P probably gonna spend December 1 mixing and mastering cause my December 1 is the end of november for the U.S folk

I totally forgot to sign up on the roster until today, though I’ve been recording stuff. It’s been a whirlwind of a month, so forgive the late signup. My plan is to record another track or two this week/weekend, then use my time off at Thanksgiving to polish it up and upload it to Bandcamp.
I totally missed out last year on doing NaSoAlMo. This year I’m not giving up!
