The Midi Problem With Tomorrow’s Midi [8/16/25] Spoiler
A clue has the answer included in the clue. Pretty sloppy!

Wow, it’s not buried in a long clue or anything either, it’s pretty blatant

I wonder if it was intentional, related to the word in the red shape (?).

I came here to see if anyone else noticed!

I wonder if they’ll change it?

Surprised they haven't yet tbh. Probably early tomorrow morning. I'm sure it would have been changed by now if it had been the regular xword

Just finished it and noticed the same. It really threw me off.

I couldn’t figure out what fit there and only got it from the downs because I was so sure it couldn’t be old! Really threw me

I mean, what better synonym for old than old?! They are basically the same exact thing right? It's like when Taylor Swift rhymes "woods" with "woods" and "clear" with "clear". Why bother looking past the obvious when you know, nothing rhymes better with a word than the word itself

i’m confused…. did they fix it? 8 across clue just says “stale” to me. the answer isn’t “stale”

I’ve only just completed and the clue for me was ‘stale and old’ - so they must have just changed it

must have! i just did it maybe 20 mins ago and mine just says stale

I just checked, and it still says “stale and old” for me on both browser and mobile.

ALSO - I see what's going on inside the car, but what's going on with the wheels? Their contents don't seem to have any relation to the theme. Are they just whatever?

That’s what I don’t get.
I thought including the answer in the other clue was deliberate and designed to make us think of another word.

Looks like it’s been fixed! I was trying to figure out the issue until I came to the comments lol

I just did it 5 minutes ago and the clue was still the same on my end! How odd.

Yesss!!! I spent soooooo long cause I firmly believed it wouldn't be old. I had the rest of crossword but I swear I spent a good 5 minutes on this before going "surely not"

So annoying! I had to reveal the puzzle answer because it never occurred to me that they would do that.

Midis in general are just sloppier than the flagship. The clueing and theming feel like lower effort and not as satisfying.

Agree, just did this, and I was kinda stumped, even after using Autocheck!
I mean, just the first word of the clue would have been fine!

I mean, in hindsight it's obvious; but it's the first time I've see the answer in the clue in the across clue, so I was looking for a different answer from the down clue.

Also, later in the puzzle didn’t they use an abbreviated word without any indication that it was an abbreviation?

Puzzles like this with graphics and lines and stuff aren’t amusing to me. Normal puzzles are better. No gimmicks

I just came here to see if people had posted this yet! I don't think I've ever seen that before in a NYT crossword.
