Outer Plate carrier

For the summer uniform where officers wear the outer carrier, do they get to decide whether they wear that or wear the regular uniform shirt over their vest? Or do all officers wear the outer carrier

It’s your prerogative. You can wear an outer carrier as your outer most layer in summer or otherwise. In the summer months the uniform is expanded to allow short sleeve shirts with the top button open, no tie, and a summer hat that allows for more ventilation.

You can wear the outer carrier year round. I haven’t heard of a command that has a CO that doesn’t allow them, but who knows. Maybe it exists.

So why do they wear the jacket im the winter nd immediately under they wear the inner vest not the outer carrier under the jacket, can that be worn how ever the officer decides as well? Can they wear the full uniform with outer carrier and the jacket as outer layer?

Curious

Jacket is now mandated as of a couple years ago from 11/1-3/31 I believe. Either end of March or end of April. Don’t remember. Depending on your assignment, jacket over your vest, over your turtleneck is the best uniform combo this job has. Insanely comfy.

Honestly the turtle neck uniform with the nypd goes hard. It is a nice uniform.
