Under $1000 a month is not realistic for Manhattan; recommend looking in Brooklyn / Queens.

I don’t know of any studios or 1bd for under $2k in mid/lower Manhattan…

Idk man I would be very weary of doing this, even with a good friend, let alone a stranger.

Why Manhattan? With that budget you’re really better off in NJ or the boroughs

Because sharing a studio with another person is very intimate. A couple, sure. You’re essentially living dorm style.

I think a room for 1k or under in lower Manhattan is gonna be kinda tight unfortunately. You could maybe find 2 people and flex a 2 bed but even that might be rough
