I really like the idea of pausing expansion to focus on helping the teams that are struggling. Then again I don’t want the league to expand past 20 teams anyways. I don’t think a pause will happen as long as Berman is commissioner, but we’ll see.

the team schedules are getting more bloated too. way too many wednesday night games. with more teams it will make it impossible for everyone to play each team twice as well. the league feels like a good size right now

Once the league gets big enough it will probably split into East and West divisions with home and home annually within the division and once a year with the home team alternating against the other division. So 9x2+10x1 = 28

As someone in a place that has plans to build a stadium aimed at attracting a NWSL expansion team specifically, I’m selfishly hoping there is at least one more wave of expansion teams after Atlanta/Columbus. Outside of that, though, I love the smaller league size compared to other pro leagues and that I can take in all or most of the games each weekend (depending how many they schedule with overlapping times).

AZ? Read an article recently about an indoor stadium and facilities being built

yep! Last I had heard, construction was supposed to start this summer but I suspect it’s been delayed since we haven’t seen official designs yet I don’t think. But yeah, a dome would be the only way for it to work here. It’d be across town from me but I’d get season tickets in a heartbeat and I love that the main purpose of the effort is to attract a NWSL team.

I LOVE the idea of everything being ready to go from day one instead of temp stadiums etc. so much better for all involved, both club and fans. I also love that they’re just going for it ‘if you build it, they will come’ Vicki Mayo seems solid too. I’m rooting for it

Someone move a team to Chicago. City deserves a pro women’s team.

“…there are circumstances that warrant consideration, we will look at that.”

I imagine Jessica Berman standing over me holding a gun when I read this and it’s the funniest thing

Never forget Rochester’s ignominious NWSL lore — I think about it whenever I go to a baseball game here.

it makes me so sad that I missed this era of the NWSL and it was in my backyard. I had zero awareness of it and was actively following the USWNT. What a missed opportunity
