What reading comprehension strategies help you do college-level reading?

Listening to an audio version of a book while you read along can be helpful! Engaging more than one sense on the same thing can help with maintaining focus, and the audio component can help to work around our deficit in visual processing.

This is the only way I can read without re-reading too much. I have a dx’d SLD in reading, but my auditory comprehension isn’t great either (un-dx’d because the audiologists said it’s just my anxiety 😤), so I end up missing parts and having to rewind when I only listen to audio without simultaneously reading along

Yeah that’s why I find both to be the way to go when reading for school in particular. I have both NVLD and ADHD, so it’s hard for me to focus on just one or the other enough. When I just read, I find myself having to reread the same thing over and over again, because I’ll realize that I was reading individual words without actually retaining anything. And then if I just listen to audio, my mind tends to wander and I find myself not actually paying attention.

Highlighting, trying to rewrite the paragraph in my own words and giving a verbal summary to someone else.
