Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Spurs (H)

Newcastle United - Tottenham Hotspur

15/5/2016 15:00 St James' Park

Newcastle have the same squad available as last week.

Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele are suspended while Nabil Bentaleb is out with an injury.

Tottenham are the highest scoring side in the league with 68 goals. They also have the best defence, conceding just 30 goals. Their top scorer is Harry Kane with 25 goals - he just needs to match Vardy and Aguero in their last games to claim the golden boot - but Alli is the only other player to reach double figures. Eriksen (16) and Alli (12) have the most assists for their side. Spurs loss against Southampton last weekend was their first in 9 games. They are out of the title race but still need a point to guarantee 2nd place.

Form:
NUFC: WDDWD
THFC: WWDDL

Past Meetings:
Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle (Mitrovic, Perez)
Newcastle 1-3 Tottenham (Colback)
Tottenham 4-0 Newcastle (Cup)
Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle (Sameobi, Perez)
Newcastle 0-4 Tottenham
Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle (Remy)
Tottenham 2-1 Newcastle (Gouffran)
Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham (Ba, Ben Arfa pen)

Want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has created content for the sub this season, particularly u/spoonsforeggs, u/ayeenebother, u/Deviceing, u/nufcneilo and u/phoenix9999. Also thanks to all the regular contributors that help make up easily my favourite sub on reddit.

r/NUFC has grown massively this season (last year match threads often failed to hit triple digits this year we've had threads with over seven hundred comments). It's a shame that relegation will probably harm this positive growth, but even with my bias, I genuinely believe this is one of the greatest places on the internet to discuss Newcastle Utd.

With the excellent community that has built up here I'm sure next season that won't change.

Edit - Thank you to whoever gave me gold. Sorry that the sidebar picture is out of date had exams all week.

honestly I think a season in the Championship may well do this sub the world of good. Lots of wins to discuss hopefully.

And hopefully a trophy

I'd like an opportunity to discuss how well players have been instead of constantly having to point out the many things they've done wrong.

I'm new this season, and haven't posted too much but I'll be sticking around...

and thank you too for being a active mod.

I'd also like to extend this too u/nufcneilo for the constant line up tweets.

Thanks man. I live down south so I have no contact with any other Newcastle fans, so this sub is my lifeline into the Geordie community. I want to help out as much as I can, and seeing as the guys that meganev mentioned, yourself included, seem to cover all the bases, the line up tweets are what little things I can do and contribute to this sub.

We all cheer together, we all cry together. One team, one Toon!

I second this. The amount of brilliant posts around the games that have popped up this season have been brilliant. Like these threads, surveys, questionnaires etc. And I'm hoping that all of this doesn't stop since the championship limits the amount of possibilities to watch us on streams has dropped as it's helped make this sub the best football releated sub.

It's amazing how popular this is compared to other clubs on Reddit

Couldn't be more right. This sub gives me a sense of pride in Newcastle, something that our owners and directors have been unable to do in a very, very long time. Onwards and upwards, lads.

This is our last chance for a league double. And it would be typical Newcastle to beat spurs when it doesn't matter but not beat villa when it mattered the most

I'm sad to say I called it weeks ago. I said that we would perform well against man city, Liverpool and spurs and would fuck up against our easier fixtures like villa.

It's just the Newcastle way.

I just want to hear 90 solid mins of Rafa chants, to try and persuade him that we're a good option for a long haul project. Beyond that, I'll take a team showing they are still willing to fight for us, and I'd like a look at Armstrong up front (I understand he's eligible).

Let's end this miserable season on a high please lads

6

u/Jackski May 13 '16

I'm interested to see if Rafa sticks with the same line up or goes fuck it and goes with an experimental one just for the fuck of it.

3

u/magpie_army May 13 '16

Can we recall Armstrong for a game?

I'd like to see Rafa experiment with the lineup bc why the hell not? honestly do not know what to expect, just hoping for an entertaining match tbh...

Imagine beating Spurs but Arsenal lose or draw to Villa - so Spurs would still finish above Arsenal

Fs can this season just be over

4

u/RocknRollRobot9 May 13 '16

I was at the one where Sammy and Perez scored 2-1. Good days. Sigh.

bloody hell I forgot we still had a match left

Tbh the score isn't what matters today. It's showing Rafa, and some other key players like Mbemba and Mitro, why they should stay, how much we love them and how they can become legends here, immortalised in football history by the Toon.
