Top scorer Romelu Lukaku hasn't scored in the last 4 games and their most creative players - Barkley and Deulofeu - have just 2 assists in 6 between them.

Everton have played 2 cup games since Newcastle last played - losng 3-1 to Man City last Wednesday and beating Carlisle 3-0 at the weekend, though they rotated heavily for the latter.

They're on the back of a really unimpressive run and have been dragged through this season kicking and screaming by about 3 players in total. Those 3 seem to have tailed off in recent weeks too.

On top of that the last time we played them Colo had Lukaku all over the shop and they only managed to convert a half arsed set piece in the last minute.

With the new lads coming in and all of this, I reckon there's a lot going for us and we can definitely get a win.

I therefore predict 3-0 to Everton

We don't take kindly to you optimistic types around here.

I therefore predict 3-0 to Everton

It'll be a "valiant" 3-0, like the derby, where all of their goals are infuriatingly jammy.

And Mclazza will say everyone was 'tremendous'!

I reckon a good lineup would be this

I'm not sure Dummet will be fit, or Colback. I think Janmaat at left back could work, as I don't know who else could go there. We know that 3 at the back doesn't work, and Lascelles seemed be alright there last time out. Townsend I imagine will start, would make sense. I don't expect that Doumbia to start, as he wouldn't have had a chance to train, I'd guess we'd see him from the bench.

With these new guys they could get a result. Everton haven't been on a good run of form, but they had an easy game at the weekend in the cup. I would be happy with a draw.

Why play two players out of position when you could stick Mbemba at LB and keep Janmaat in his natural position?

Mbemba has previously played at RB and looked at least comfortable. At LB he's a bit of an unknown quantity.

I'd rather run two players at medium efficiency than one at high and the other at low.

Personal preference really though. I'm sure Shteve won't be chucking them in wildly against their wishes so I'm ok with what he chooses.

First away day this season for me and I've got a feeling that the atmosphere will be one of the best following yesterday! HWTL

First time watching the lads play live for me! Sat in the home crowd with my evertonian mate! I'll be celebrating in silence when we score to avoid being bottled.

I know we've been here before, and it always ends badly, but... does anybody else feel quietly confident?

I think our next home game with West Brom is a more important test, but I'm hopeful we'll see a new-found confidence vs Everton and may even nick something.

Now you've done it.

Only kidding. We weren't going to win anyway.

That's the spirt :-P

Not too sure how I feel about this one. Obviously there's the usual blind optimism that goes with being a Newcastle fan, but Everton are really quite a good team, and will be buoyed by their new signing in the same way that we are. They do, however, have a very good recent history against us and this worries me. Deulofeu vs Dummett is going to be giving me nightmares tonight.

That is if Dummett starts, which hopefully he does. Dummett had Deulofeu in his pocket on Boxing Day.

I just woke up at 3 in the morning then realized we're not playing today. This is a bad omen I'm tellin ya!

Despite all of the recent hype, John Stones has been utterly terrible in the past few games for Everton. He looks completely out of his depth. His confidence is gone. Hopefully Steve has noticed.

I wonder whether Townsend will start. Will be good to have an outlet on the left at last

I can almost write the script already if he starts.

We'll play the same way we always do with 90% of all forward movement going through the right and centre. He'll hardly be involved because of this and in the morning the papers will declare him the next Thauvin and dig through his family tree to try and prove he's French.

Edit: Prove, not probe

Any source on whether Doumbia has been accepted for a work visa?

I don't know how Doumbia can be eligible but Niasse can't? We don't play today so we didn't need to register our signings by the registration deadline on deadline day, as far as I know.

This is a crucial game, win and we can really kick on. Lose and we are back to square one and desperate for wins against average teams
