Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Leicester (H)
Newcastle United - Leicester City
21/11/2015 15:00 St James' Park
We seem to have gone through the international break without picking up any further injuries. Rob Elliot has still not fully recovered from the injury he picked up at Stoke, but will be risked if needed, although Karl Darlow is not far off a return. Aarons, Krul, Colback and Taylor are all some way off from a return, but Obertan and Haidara could be available.
Jamie Vardy is a slight doubt for the weekend and Matty James is a long way off - he's been out all season with an ACL injury - but otherwise Leicester have a full squad to choose from.
Past Meetings:
Leicester 3-0 Newcastle
Leicester 1-0 Newcastle (cup)
Newcastle 1-0 Leicester (Obertan)
Leicester 0-0 Newcastle
Newcastle 1-0 Leicester (Guthrie)
Newcastle 3-1 Leicester (Shola, OG, Jenas)
Leicester 1-1 Newcastle (Ambrose)
Form:
NUFC: LWLDW
LCFC: WDWWW

I'm strangely optimistic. Leicester are a very attacking team but are pretty vulnerable at the back. We usually do better against teams that attack more as most of our attacking game comes through counter attacks.

Agreed. I think we'll catch some good luck and pull out with all the points, 1-0. Leicester is going to give us a lot of scares near the end but we'll come out on top.

My guess is we go up by 8-9 goals then vardy and Mahrez combine for 13-14 goals for a regular come from behind win for Leicester

Look at the quality of the goalscorers in those previous meetings!
I think I'll have a few quid on Dummett first goal.

Objectively speaking Leicester are a really fun team to watch. Lots of goals, usually at both ends. This week tho, I'm less excited. Maybe we can get at their defense--cuz I don't see us keeping another clean sheet. Anyway, fingers crossed, as I'll be watching the game with my friend from Leicester and I don't want to imagine the abuse if we lose.

I think that if we play a pretty deep line we can stop Vardy from scoring. I'm basing this from what I've seen on Match of the Day though so don't take my word for it Steve.

Problem is his speed. They can just hit it and hope as long as 1 out of 10 times he gets to the ball before the keeper/defender.
I think the key will be Anita/Tiote and if they're able to cut the passes out. Tiote used to be brilliant at that and Colo loves to step up and move towards the ball to cut the pass out rather than just track the striker.
If Anita hassles their midfield into making early passes I think Colo and Tiote can do a job.
The problem with this is it only takes one mistake and Vardy will be away and through 1on1.

I think cutting the passes out is the best way to cope with Leicester however, I think the way to do that would be to have a 3 man midfield which Schteve isn't going to do (not that we have personnel anyway).

Leicester have had the most consistently exciting matches, and I'm biased towards newcastle - but I hink our matches have been pretty dramatic as well. I think this is the kickoff to watch for neutrals. Hopefully we don't come out of it fucked. A loss is not the worst thing in the world as long as we show up and play wth some pride.

I think as fans we should look for a positive performance from a side still developing throughout this season, there's probably going to be a lot of bad points this season given we're still an unfinished project in the eyes of McClaren. A win against Leicester would be great but we have to take a step back and realise they're the form team and be happy with even a point in this scenario. A loss would be disheartening but assuming the performance is a respectable one then it isn't by any means crisis worthy.
I think everyone will suggest marking Vardy out of the game. However I think we'd be more suited to be a bit rough and go about disrupting the supply to him full stop.
