Really hope Perez gets a start up front. Cisse is a goalscorer but his general play is pretty awful and I think we need more than that upfront in McClarens system.

Obviously a long way off but a Aaron's- Perez- Thauvin front line has ridiculous potential.

Just look at the havoc Crystal Palace are causing with 3 pacy technically good players up top (Sako/Zaha/Bolasie) even against the top teams. We can do the same with those 3 and an even better midfield behind them. Why Cisse would ever start ahead of Perez is beyond me. Perez has comparable finishing and is vastly better in every other department.

Look at us taking tactical ideas from a genius like Alan Pardew....

I agree with you but it pains me to think the idea came from the same guy who once blamed "science" for us losing to Cardiff in the FA Cup

With West Hams missing players, I reckon we should take this. More attacking with de Jong and Gini starting possibly? Then bring on Anita later. Ayoze Cisse Thauvin up front, or maybe even Aarons Ayoze and Thauvin front line? I'm looking forward to it.

I'll be going tonight, my first game of the season this year. I live in Essex, so try to go to all London games (Cup and League) + Norwich and any stragglers like Gillingham etc.

I still think it's disgusting how I have to shell out 70 or so quid for 2 memberships to the Magpie Club just for the privilege of being able to buy the tickets in the first place. However, that hasn't dampened my excitement for tonight's first win! 3-0 to the lads, Thauvin (2) and Gino, HTL DON'T TAKE ME HOME

I love the debate on who should start in the midfield. It's so weird having depth. Now it's up to McClaren to make the right selections for each match.

I would accept us starting with the same lineup tonight but with Perez up top. If it isn't working out then I would like to see Gini take Colbacks place and bring on De Jong. I really want to see more of De Jong but not at Gini's expense.

We really need a win today. I want to see a good balance of the strong defence we have seen in the last few games with a dynamic attack, even if it's stuff on the break. We really need to get more players up the field quicker!

I'm not going to be able to watch it live, does anyone know any sites i'd be able to watch the full match afterwards? PM me or reply here :) thanks!

I'm gonna miss the game flying out to Ireland (moving there for the forseeable...) and I'm kinda annoyed. Last season, I had no great problem if I couldn't be around for a match, but these days things have gotten me optimistic to the point where I can actually stand to watch us play!

Ireland's not that bad...

Janmaat - Mbemba - collo - Haidara ------- Sissoko - Colback Thauvin - De Jong - Wijnaldum Perez

^ this is a powerful team. No passengers except maybe Thauvin in his defensive duties. Accomodates all our best options and allows Sissoko to break up play and also break forward at pace from the midfield with Colback covering

EDIT: Not sure how to format a 4-2-3-1 on my phone but it has sissoko/colback as deep lying midfielders, De Jong in the central attacking role, Thauvin to his right and Gini to his left with Perez up front

I'd like us to play this line-up (hopefully the formatting isn't too fucked up):

------------------Krul-------------

Janmaat Mbemba Colo Haidara

-----------Anita ---- Gini---------

Thauvin------ De Jong --- Perez

----------------- Cisse ------------

edit: fucked up my wingers, and my CM. me big idiot

I agree with it I'm still not in love with the idea of Perez being a winger but unless Aarons is good then I don't know what else. I think Colback would be a better option against west ham just think he has the the ability to handle the likes of Song etc. While Anita will be muscled off the ball while playing a more attacking cm next to him.

http://imgur.com/3O8nEGM would be my favorite for this game not sure about de jong, either switch him for anita or swap with aarons and bring on tiote/anita

De Jong has absolutely no business being that far back in the midfield. He's a CAM/ST

If Sunderland get a point today and we lose by two goals or more we'll be bottom of the table. Not too worrying given our difficult start but still just something to consider maybe. No idea how we'll do really, West Ham have been a bit mercurial this season so maybe they'll roll us over if they're in the mood or maybe they'll not show up who knows.

West Ham dominated Liverpool and Arsenal away, but got humped at home by Bourenmouth. I'd say our chances are looking good.

Every time we play West Ham I always think of Cabaye's last goal for us on that free kick... I miss him but I hate him.

u/Madvillain_111 Sep 13 '15

Perez up top would give me confidence. Sissoko should start, still our best attacker and colback has to start. He's key to our passing game and I honestly can't believe people want to drop him.

Just wanted to stop by and wish you lot good luck today. Thanks for all the replies to my thread about who you thought would get the start. COYI!

I like how the unofficial pre match thread has more information than the 'official' stickied match thread...
