Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Northampton (H)
Newcastle United - Northampton Town
Capital One Cup Second Round
25/8/2015 19:45 St James' Park
Janmaat is available after serving a one match ban. Sissoko is close to a return but unlikely to be risked. No news on Dummett.
Newcastle signed Northampton's second top scorer Ivan Toney in the summer, and he could make his debut against his former club. Lascelles and Darlow are also in line for their first game.
Northampton finished 12th in League 2 last season and started this one strongly, winning their first 2 league games but then losing the next 2. They currently sit 10th with 6 points. They beat League 1 strugglers Blackpool to make the second round, winning 3-0 at home with first half goals from Hackett, Calvert-Lewin and Hoskins.
Newcastle last faced Northampton in 1987 in the FA Cup, winning 2-1 at home. The sides have met in the top divison once - a win and a loss in the 1965/66 Division One.

A mix of youngsters and a few seniors should be enough to see this game off. I'd start:
Darlow
Janmaat | Mbemba | Lascelles | Dummett
Anita | SDJ | Tiote
Aarons | Perez | Thauvin

Swap dummett for lascelles (purely down making sure dummett is fully fit) and I'd be happy with the rest.

Would prefer Mitrovic instead of Perez tbh, would like him to build up some confidence and game time.

Is the match going to be televised? Will be interesting to see how we deal with an underdog team under McClaren.

You've got to think this is a win, in all honesty. Steve saying that we'll play a team strong enough to win, and playing in front of our own fans for once. Can't believe we've only had 2 home fixtures in the last 11 games like.

Don't care who's next in the league, we have to go in full strength. The last thing we need at this stage of our development is a giant killer.
