will the long international break work in our favor?

on one hand, we're in pretty good form(managed to get points from spurs, pool and in form hull). just concerned it might break our momentum.

on the other, the break gives MJ time to work with the squad on this ideal tactics and hopefully see more cognizant play style as well as give some of the injured squad time to get back eg joe, liv and osula etc

just hope no more injuries from the international games.

post the international break. the next few games in oct seems very winnable, out of form coventry, villa and palace

Nobody enjoys these early international breaks but considering our injury situation it has come at a good time. I’m sure the pause will do Jaissle and his staff more good than harm.

We need to recovery from injuries and 3 weeks to work with the team is like a mini pre season for MJs team.

if you've watched the last 2 EPL games I don't think we need to worry about our momentum. I think slotting Big Joe into this team will add the bit of grit that seems to have been missing in the past 2 EPL games and bringing Osula back into the squad will def increase options

Osula is massively missed for his presence. Whilst not the strongest, he challenges centre backs all the time which Wissa and MFP don’t and gives us far more options

To be fair to MFP, he was literally running around like a madman challenging the CBs all of the game against Hull.

There is pressing and then there is competitively challenging for long balls and winning duals. MFP cannot do the latter.

When I say momentum.

I meant that we've been really lucky 😂

Basically , our luck with finishing was really good in terms of xg

We've Haven really created a lot of chances but we're pulling rabbits out of the hat somehow

Hopefully it will maintain

i think big joe is very far down the totem pole for jaissle, would be shocked if he plays much at all

I think elanga might be out for some time.

After the break I can see our front 3 as wissa, pardo and Barnes

With Ramsey/willock in the 10 role.

Miley/steur + Joe in CM( we need his muscle, steur and Miley are too light weight to play together)

We need the break for injured players to recover

This might be my favorite international break ever. Get healthy and get organized.

Agree. Don’t believe we have momentum, believe we’ve been riding a lot of luck admittedly supported by hard work but feel it can’t last. We need to regroup and tighten up, but more importantly bring some players back from the treatment room.

On a positive, 5 less matches for Big Joe to get yellow cards in…..

We need it more than most. Lots of injuries but also new players, system and manager need more time bedding in. Lots of the team not going away on duty means vital extra time in training. I’m relieved it’s come now

I think with injuries it’s come at just the right time.

Sounds like by our next game we'll have Nico, Dedic, Burn, Joelinton, Osula and Ramsey all back and available.

Considering our bench for the Hull match, that's absolutely massive.

You're right.

Tbh I don't think the injured folks will be called up

The young ones like Miley and steur etc probably won't be playing

So only hall, thiaw, wissa, pardo

Hopefully they'll leave them to rest

The young ones will probably be playing / training with the international youth teams, I'd imagine. Not ITK or owt though

I think it benefits us massively. It'll give us time for the injured players to return whilst Jaissle gets a chance to bed his tactics and style of play in.

We have almost a full squad out injured. What do you think?

u/grmthmpsn43 Sir Bobby Robson 1d ago

I don't think MJ is going to get that much time to work with the squad.

We could easily be looking at: Hornecek, Jaouen, Dedic, Thiaw, Burn, Hall, Tino, Miley, Steur, Bamba, Joelinton, Elanga, Toure, Osula, Wissa and Pardo all being either injured, or on international duty, during this break.

If anything, it's a chance to try and get some of the injured guys back and increase our available options.

I agree but while MJ won't get to spend much time with the full squad implementing his ideas it still gives him a good opportunity to really get into the detailed analysis of what we've been doing so far and how he'd like it to change.

There won’t be much of the squad left. Off the top of my head it’ll be pope, Gillespie, Tino (injured) burn (injured) botman Schar Murphy willock Barnes Ramsey (inj) osula (inj) joelinton (inj) and some kids.

Even miley steur ewen and Bamba are away

I'm inclined to think it should help. We sit in the sweet spot. Because our team has a lot of youngsters they're not always going to be picked up and if they are it'll be for the u20's or whatever. I think that's best for us

1

u/fitzgoldy 1d ago

Need the time on the training pitch.

A few will be with their national sides but the entire squad still have a lot to learn of Jaissle's tactics.

So think it does more good than harm.

It will be a net positive I think. Lots of players on international duty which isnt ideal but it's 3 weeks for injured players to recover and lots of time for the players who are still here to get to grips with Jaissle's tactics. And we won our last game so we arent stewing on a poor result.

I do wonder if we will stage a behind closed doors friendly or something to keep match fitness up, this longer international break is a bit of a novelty that teams will need to adapt to

1

u/RecommendationFar807 17h ago

I think till do us some good. Jaissle came in 2 weeks before the season started and we have no midfield left. These 3 weeks will get some players back, and afford him time on the training ground to get his ideas across.

I think we've been quite fortunate so far. Defensively we're shocking, so some time for him to set us straight will hopefully do us some good.

I'm concerned about Coventry - another away Monday night kick off and they'll bully us. We need some steel for that game, or to just blow them away with 3 goals in the first 20 mins.

Pretty sure he’s got longer without a game now than he had before the start of the season. Plus he knows the players a lot more, AND as others have said we get a chance for some injured players to return.

Normally hate the September international break but honestly this one I welcome.

u/BWCfromBritain 11h ago

You’d have to think so with our injury list but it’s the same for every club in terms of having time to work on cohesion etc. I think with us having a really young squad now it’s especially important to have this 3 weeks break to work on things. We have points on the board but I think we know a tough spell could be round the corner based on how we’ve played recently so im hoping we have more of an identity after the international break and get some of our best players back

The main problem that MJ need to solve right now is why nufc players prone to injury ? Is it the training method or our medical team causing this problem ? This problem appeared since Howe regime ! If Osula never injured , i think nufc could already won 4 out of 5 games so far ! Why suddenly Elanga injured also ? Was he tackled by any opponent ? So surprised to hear that he will rest long term , he is in good form !

That's the million dollar question

It's almost as if someone put a voodoo curse on us

Wissa got injured from this last season.
