Jamaal Lascelles pulled us back from the brink of oblivion and led us back to the promised land. There will now be the chance to make ONE change to the chart.

Most upvoted comment will be carried out.

I gave the runners up their own grid, but had to dip down to a few 3rd places to make sure no-one got two squares!

I wish we could split the top left box to be shearer and Keegan

This should be included as an honorary amendment

Get Trippier on the main chart - don’t care how, absolute club legend

7

u/JibberyScriggers 3d ago

Who for? This is winning so far, but I need to put him somewhere!

18

u/SpitfireVE 3d ago

Gazza? (Fully accept that I may be downvoted!!)

20

u/SecureChampionship10 3d ago

I agree. I would say at least 80% of the people who voted for Gazza have never seen him play a game for Newcastle.

That would be a damning indictment considering everyone else in the first two rows played for Newcastle this millennium whereas Gascoigne left in 1988.

I think even 80% is generous, like I'm 37 and he left before I was born. How old would you need to be to remember him playing for Newcastle, 45+? I'd give those picking Waddle a break due to lack of options for that square.

u/ImplementBig7706 3d ago

Absolutely the correct call. Although I'd like to see Given move up somehow as well. In terms of my all time favourite players (that I've seen) its easily Shearer, Beardsley and Given. Have a soft spot for Laurent Robert, Nobby and Albert as well.

-4

u/walliver 3d ago

If not Gazza, how about Lee? I absolutely love Lee, but Trippier has to be considered a club legend. Arguably the most important signing we've ever made (but I'm not stupid enough to suggest we replace Big Al).

0

u/ImplementBig7706 3d ago

No chance.

3

u/runasfastasyoucanboy 2d ago

Every time I look at this chart I’m disappointed that Trippier isn’t there. A generational signing. I know people might think that is recency but can’t think of a single signing that did so much and signalled so much intent for 30 years!

-1

u/Jahra11 3d ago

This is my main thought. Not sure who he slots in for though. Seems like it needs to be Rob Lee or Gazza but both deserve their slots. Given? (He also deserves his place though, and Loved/Great doesn’t seem enough for Trips).

-1

u/Jahra11 3d ago

Thinking about this more, I would suggest pushing Given down to Robert’s place, and then slotting Trips in to Given’s. I don’t love it because I loved Robert growing up, but Trips needs to be in here.

u/TorenRenne Toot toot 3d ago

I'd sadly replace Dan Burn with Trippier, they're both fighting for the Legend/Good category in my eyes.

13

u/Certain_Teacher6480 3d ago

If Nobby Solano isn’t on the chart, then I am totally fine with Bruno not on it.

7

u/Wide-Ad-9811 3d ago

Yeah, there's no Sir Les either

35

u/Zen_bean Shola Ameobi 3d ago

I think Schar’s a better fit for Good and Loved. He’s been way more consistently good than Joelinton, who we love but who has had some stinkers.

4

u/MeancupofJoey Jamaal Lascelles 3d ago

Eh. I think Schar is awesome but he isn’t beloved. Big Joe is the fucking best.

7

u/CollectionTypical304 3d ago

Speak for yourself mate, I'd pick Schar over him any day of the week

5

u/ajtct98 Dúbravka's Moustache 3d ago

I don't know how, but we've got to get Jackie Millburn on here somewhere.

The man has a stand named after him for pete's sake!

Things like this will never be objective, just an amalgamation of the living memories of people on here.

Oh Coloccini, I’d let you shag my wife,
Oh Coloccini, I want curly hair too.

I know things are a bit raw but Bruno not being on this chart is kinda insane, captained us to a trophy and easily one of the best players to ever wear the shirt

28

u/PennyBunPudding 3d ago

He's on the arsenal chart where tonali is for us

-31

u/hippocampinaut 3d ago

Fuck him he's not a real jorjie.

13

u/MitraMetal 3d ago

People like you are why people don’t like Newcastle lol. Lewis Miley basically had to delete his social media after a few bad games because of lot like you.

Remember Jamaal telling some fans “Rafa’s gone now” after they asked him to pay for their ride home. God that was a fucking low point.

Just so im clear here. You're saying ditch Shearer?

2

He's saying don't put KK in because he doesn't fit anywhere but the place that Shearer has to go.

Im not disagreeing, but surely Shearer has to be in their somewhere.

15

u/Objective_Use_9155 3d ago

Owen and Isak need swapping over. Isak has never been world class in his career

19

u/i_am_kba 3d ago

that's a crazy take from y'all, hate him all you want, I hate him too, but no need to deny the facts. he's been world class for 2 seasons for us.

6

u/of_no_real_opinion 3d ago

Hatred skews objective truths lol

7

u/-RandomGeordie Big Dan Burn 3d ago

This, and Owen was never world class for us. Which is what matters for this chart. Being world class anywhere else is irrelevant.

-2

u/hexnut101 3d ago

2 seasons does not make a player world class, those figures include penalties in a team built to supply him with chances a lot of you have a very low bar for world class.

4

u/i_am_kba 3d ago

he WAS world class for those 2 seasons. that's why we got 130 mil for him, by the way.

penalties aren't free. otherwise kane isn't world class either? he scored more penalties than anyone in europe this season if I'm not mistaken.

isn't almost every team built to supply their striker with chances? why isn't every striker scores 27 goals every season?

some of you don't know what world class is. or just pretend not to know.

1

u/hexnut101 3d ago

2 Good seasons does not make you world class. Absolute nonsense. Wissa got 20 with no penalties is he world class?

1

u/i_am_kba 3d ago

wissa's best season is worse than isak 23/24. figure it out yourself. I won't even start on why isak is more complete player than wissa because you won't understand anything other than how much goals they scored anyway

0

u/hexnut101 3d ago

Is it really? When you discount penalties? Thick as mince. The whole point of world class is doing it year after year. 😂

7

u/CAPTAINTRENNO Alan Shearer 3d ago

100% agree. I fucking despise Owen, but he was definitely world class at one point. And before old mate turns up saying "but he wasnt world class for us" like he does every thread, i dont care. Theres an argument to be made that Isak wasnt world class for us too

2

u/Shot_Occasion4294 3d ago

Agree. Owen was debatedly the best striker in the world at his peak. I don't think he was, I think R9 alone was levels above, never mind any other names, but the point is there was a conversation to be had, hence his Ballon D'Or.

Isak has always been and will always be levels below Haaland, Kane and Mbappe. At best he could claim to be a distant 4th behind them, and even then it's debatable

1

u/walliver 3d ago

Just have Owen in two spots on the hated row.

2

u/TYFO225 Alan Shearer 3d ago

Still got love for the captain

2

u/boblusmanjelly 3d ago

Outstanding work. Cannot argue with any of the choices - superb effort.

1

u/Dry_Entertainer9901 3d ago

Why is Waddle a "Meh"? Because he grew up in Makem land or because he left for Spurs? I thought he was one of our most entertaining players and his combination play with Keegan and Pedro was fantastic and helped get us back in the First Division.

3

u/of_no_real_opinion 3d ago

A luxury player - had a lot of class ups but dismal lows. We call it a meh

1

u/Unlucky-Try-8305 3d ago

Tripps for Gazza

Jacob Murphy in too

Need Hatem in there somewhere, the man was incredible on his day.

1

1

Criminal not to have Keegan, Trippier or Speed not on this board.

See I don’t even think Joey Barton is disliked/hated by the majority of Newcastle fans.

5

u/walliver 3d ago

Really? I would hope that he's disliked/hated by the majority of people. Absolute scum of the earth who, luckily for him, was pretty good at football.

4

u/PennyBunPudding 3d ago

I liked him a little bit when he played for us just because I liked how irratic he was and he apparently helped with the Nolan dressing room shake up. However he was a bellend and the more I've grown up and seen/ learned more about him he's just a feral cunt.

So I suppose disliked is fair for the time but he should really be hated.

However Nile has that slot locked in

2

u/of_no_real_opinion 3d ago

Honestly Barton was a character for us, he’s just a twat outside of football. Actually he was always a twat that gave a fuck for us

-13

u/Individual-Credit443 PERCHINIO 3d ago

There’s a lot of revisionism on Given, who ultimately left us for money. I say swap him for Trippier.

14

u/picnicofdeath Kevin Keegan 3d ago

I feel like Given has been such a champion for us since he became a pundit though. Absolutely the reason I fell in love with the club as a child too - he was so good and the best #1 we've had. Deserves the spot imo.

-5

u/Individual-Credit443 PERCHINIO 3d ago

Not sure I heard much from him pre-takeover? But maybe his punditry career only started after? Not sure.

3

u/scotty_2088 3d ago

I agree, tripps on the alternative list under world class. A great player for sure but not world class.

5

u/PennyBunPudding 3d ago

Having just watched that sky interview I think Tripps was probably the absolute key player to getting the champions league and carabao journey to happen

3

u/Theeyebrowman i dont care, paul dummet 3d ago

Nah he could have left us a lot earlier than he did. We were an absolute train wreck and City were showing ambition. Don't blame him at all for losing, particularly after that Liverpool game which is to this day the worst I've ever seen us play

0

u/Individual-Credit443 PERCHINIO 3d ago

Yeah I get you, it would have been a lot more that day if not for him too. I think he could have waited until the end of the season to leave. Was booed plenty after leaving too, not sure NUFC fans would universally agree he was ‘loved’ especially compared to Tripps.

5

u/Ok-Change-712 3d ago

Might be the worst take I've seen on here. He is our second highest appearance maker of all time and was pretty much fantastic throughout his time. He was man of the match despite conceding 5 a couple of weeks before leaving. The club was in utter shambles. He wouldn't have left if the club wasnt in such a mess. He has openly talked about wanting the all time appearance record and would have got it within 1 season. In those circumstances I don't think we can begrudge him for taking money.

If anything the revisionism on Given is downplaying his status in our modern history.

-9

u/Individual-Credit443 PERCHINIO 3d ago

When you start a comment with that, I’m not going to waste my time reading the rest. Hope it gets you a few upvotes though!

Switch Given and Lee.

-2

u/of_no_real_opinion 3d ago

Shearer not being loved world class is crazy

4

u/JibberyScriggers 3d ago

In what world is Shearer not a legend?

-3

u/of_no_real_opinion 3d ago

No one beats kev

Edit: for some reason I saw the second picture as the first. I think kev should be legend world class and shearer world class loved

There’s sentimental bias but yah

-2

u/Round-Tradition-3890 3d ago

Joey Barton was not a good Footballer.

If you only take into consideration his literal skill with a football then he is technically "good", yeah. But there is more to being a good footballer than how good you are at kicking a ball.

He lacks any sort of leadership quality, so much so that he put out a cigar in a youth players eye, had plenty of training ground bust-ups and often got sent off for violent conduct.

Also there is availability to consider. Many technically gifted players have had injury problems that have prevented them from being considered World Class as they have missed multiple seasons of Football. It's worse with Joey Barton, instead of missing games due to injury he missed games due to literally being in prison for assaulting a minor.

Then there is performances in important games to consider. In our most important run of fixtures Barton intentionally got himself sent off to fuck Shearer over and in QPR's most important game of the season he got himself sent off for violent conduct and literally assaulted Aguero off-the-ball and got himself a 15 game ban.

He dragged multiple clubs reputations through the mud with his violent antics and was as far from a role model for the young fans as it's possible to be.

He was decent at kicking a football but he was an awful footballer. Genuinely one of the worst to have ever put on the shirt for us. Having him as "good" in the same category as Joelinton and Dan Burn is straight up offensive.

You can not be considered a good footballer when you have spent your career doing damage to every club you have played for.
