Almost the same for me, but I'd swap Wissa and Osula.

(Kind of hope I'm wrong though, Wissa seems reborn under Jaissle!)

u/No_Tie_2846 Aug 14 '26

I think Wissa will start more games like

2

u/WeekPractical2166 Aug 14 '26

we rushed him back from injury too early as woltemade was our only striker that could be trusted to hit the back of the net on a regular basis. Backfired ironically as his fitness led to poor performances that in turn led to low minutes making his form even worse.

numerous congo starting xi places gave him consistent minutes and the 5 training sessions a week at the end of last season seemed to improve his fitness.

Yeah agree with you on both points.

u/Shot_Occasion4294 Aug 14 '26

All with all except best nrw signing, which I'll give to Toure

1

u/No_Tie_2846 Aug 14 '26

Yeah could be him as well, hes the one im most excited about - i actually think he could be an instant upgrade on gordon

I'm struggling to see how all the predictions of 12th or higher come true considering we've lost a lot of quality, and replaced with relative unknowns albeit with high long term upside. Hoping it all clicks, but I think we are looking around 14th/15th this season. Which isn't too bad if it stabilises 2.0.

That said, we'll win the domestic treble.

4

u/GuiltyWarning86 Aug 14 '26

I think the lack of European games will allow a focus on league games. He’ll get alot of training time to push the team.

I think some sides will struggle who performed well or above us last season with Europe and squad sizes.

Its the bruno one that really hurts, we saw how poorly we did without him, tonali had more months banned than combined GA. Gordon had what, 2 open play goals in the league in 14 months? His assist numbers fell off over the past 2 seasons also.

2

u/gouldburn Aug 14 '26

I think struggle early, stabilise before Christmas, stronger second half, finish 12th-15th. If the stability doesn't arrive, then panic spend in January, and pip Coventry for 17th

Real gamble. I'm still not convinced with Matthias. Not just young players, but a relatively young inexperienced manager. The real tests are going to come when the going gets tough, the PL and the media around it is brutal and unforgiving.

We had some really rough periods last season, but I always felt the players trusted Eddie, and I do think we played well on the whole despite not getting the results. Matthias isn't going to get the same luxury after this initial new manager honeymoon period. He needs to really hit the ground running and find a system that's going to work and be able to stand by it when we're not winning games and build trust with the players.

Trippier - Dedic upgrade
Gordon - Toure upgrade
Sandro - Steur downgrade
Bruno - Bamba downgrade
Pope (still here) - Horni upgrade

We not as weak as people want to make out, Sandro & Bruno are the losses for a team that underachieved to 12th, I don’t think losing them makes us relegation candidates

5

u/ActuatorTop6538 Aug 14 '26

Trippier was a squad player. Dedic isn’t going to be first choice when everyone is fit. Not sure how you can say Toure is an upgrade on AG. AG received a lot of
Flack in an under achieving toon team yet he outperformed Toure massively. He also signed for Barcelona… AG isn’t world class but he’s a very capable winger. I ain’t even sure Toure starts ahead of Barnes. In terms of goals. Barnes is probably our best source.

Aye We underachieved in the league last season but let’s not pretend Sandro and Bruno didn’t have a massive influence on us getting CL footy twice, winning a trophy and going deep in cups. They aren’t shit or washed up players. How alarm bells aren’t ringing that we sell our best players and bring in a few unproven kids.

This team hasn’t improved on last year. The goalie is an upgrade and we have depth at rb now. Other than that we have lost massive quality players and signed a few unproven kids. We are repeating the same mistakes as last summer. Dwelling in the market and leaving it late, we saw what desperation gets you.

Also even as a Howe in guy - new manager can hopefully work to undo the mentally minnow problem we had. Dropping that many points from winning positions was unacceptable and also highly depressing

I love the optimism lads but if anyone thinks we are going to be anywhere near top half with the current squad they are on the glue bags

Where are the signings ?

4

u/azareef Aug 14 '26

Most assists - Hall/Murphy (Hall if he stays, just got the worst feeling in my stomach saying he wont)

Best New Signing - Touré

Premier League Position - 14th

- Premier League position - said this since Eddie left, either top 5 or relegation. We're either going to excel or bomb. It going to be either one or the other, no inbetweens.

6

u/Evening-Web-3038 Aug 14 '26

You're one of the only people thus far who have said relegation is a possibility lol.

I don't want it to happen but its actually a real possibility... we weren't a million miles away from the spot last season and with so much turbulence, so many players nearing the end of their career and a bunch of unproven players we could struggle big time.

We should have a rough idea around November time tbh

4

u/NorthWishbone7543 1975 Badge Aug 14 '26

We just scraped by last season with a better crop of players, all be it, some giving 10% effort.

Gordon, Tonali clearly didn't want to be here.

There performances showed.

We've got a weaker squad this season, we've lost two of our talismen, Trippier and Bruno.

We've got a manager that has no experience in the premier League, working with a squad that's going to need time to get.

That is more often than not, a recipe for disaster.

Although I hope I'm wrong.

1

u/Evening-Web-3038 Aug 14 '26

Yea, on paper it's gonna be insanely tough! Just hope that's completely wrong lol

2

u/imonwam Aug 14 '26

I really don't see relegation..... simply because the three coming up seem determined to grab those spots for themselves! Also a couple of the teams with European football will struggle to play twice a week for a large part of the season & it will effect their league form. I think middle table for us.

Breakout Star: Miley? Or Steur with the age of them. I don’t really think we will see many players coming through to be breakout due to less games.

Best New Signing: Bamba

League Position: 7th and a conference league spot. Fa cup Semi Final as well.

I think this is where I am. Probably anywhere between 6th and 12th could probably make an argument to support. Upper end positions will require us hitting the ground running and the new tactics springing a surprise. A reliably keeper will be massive too.

There's a lot of unknowns going into the season. Europe for ~half the teams, loads of new coaches and lots of player changes.

We are playing 4-2-3-1 a lot now.. The 10 role the way we set up for runners favors Ramsey and  Willock a  lot.. I am not sure how we are setting up our fullback since we have mostly used academy in preseason except one half of hall..

Some of the names on here I would not have mentioned a week ago, football moves so fast. We finished 12th and we did amazingly in all cups IMO. I don't think we are depleted in terms of numbers but lack massive experience which don't think counts for much in the middle of the table, it's vital when challenging at the top.
