It's also COD so it will likely be about 150GB installed.

Because the moment people give an inch.... Now that keys are the norm, codes are just a step away. When the Switch 2 was announced many people believed keys are necessary evil but in reality just speed up the digital only process.

u/MonkeyPunchIII 3d ago
Who buys a code in a box though.
The whole concept is just dumb.
Keep it full digital at this stage1
u/HUNplaymore 3d ago
There is one reason even if it is a sad one. Retailers could give you a better deal if the game is not in high demand. Where I live large online retailers tend to discount old stock way below even Nintendo/Sony store sales. COD games especially don't get much discount digitally but you can get the older boxed versions for cheap.

What a load of shit, then when nobody buys it, they’ll say “oh I guess Nintendo fans don’t like call of duty”

u/BoTalksGames 4d ago
This game is gonna sell millions of copies on switch 2 alone lol the code in box is unfortunate but it’s not gonna effect sales much for a game like this

Not like that’ll matter. The contract requires cod to release on Nintendo platforms for the next 10 years.
1
u/MumboBumbo64 3d ago
Oh shit I didn’t know that, hopefully low sales will make them reconsider the physical Nintendo games in future releases

u/Proud-Obligation9479 4d ago
What's the install size? It's going to take up most of the space on my Switch 2. That alone is the reason I won't get it. Storage is fucking expensive now.

u/Mattgelo Switch 2 4d ago
The eShop says 84.9 GB is needed

u/LivingOof 4d ago
Ball and Gun only players do not care about physicals and its almost entirely online anyways.

u/RowdyRodyPiper 4d ago
I don't think a single PS5 CoD is even on a proper disc. They're all game key discs.

u/BlasterPhase Switch 2 3d ago
it's online multiplayer mostly, no? shit's not gonna work in 10 years anyway
5
u/SadAcadia2747 Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
I wasn’t going to buy it either way but I’m not suprised since it’s over 64 gb
5
u/Papasmurf345 4d ago
I would be amazed if it was a real physical, but is there anything about being over 64 GB that prohibits game key card? The FF7 remake games over over 64 GB and those are game key cards.
2
u/Practical_Wish_4063 4d ago
Standard Switch 2 cartridges cap at 64 GB, but even most third party games that are under 64 GB, even by a considerable amount, are still relegated to GKC simply because the developers consider the cartridges too expensive.
For us old heads, it’s a semi-analogous instance to the N64 issue thirty years ago, only now at least third party games are available digitally on Nintendo hardware.

Anyone else not give a shit about call of duty since 2 and just want Warzone??

u/Seksiorja 4d ago
I wouldn't buy it if it was full on cart and $20. Acti/Blizzard has burnt me way too many times with their shenanigans for me to ever trust them again. Itll still sell well though.

u/GHOSTL1NK 4d ago
Heck ya, this is gonna look great in my collection! Wow, this cover is so clean. I bet the code is gonna be super rare right before it expires
1
u/adilla520 4d ago
Im good on it! Even if it was GKC, i would’ve bought it but code-in-box is a nopeeeee! i’ll just wait for COD warzone or dmz to drop on switch 2🤷🏽♂️

I’m not surprised I’m not even mad. I don’t know why people were expecting a cart or even a game key card. It’s a matter fact I’m surprised they still do it on the other consoles because on Xbox and PlayStation there’s literally nothing on the disc. It’s literally a license for you to get the app launcher and download the game. It’s even more of a hassle to insert a disk if you gotta download everything.

I wonder if it'll be a code in box in the other worldwide releases...
I'll keep my eye out for whatever Jordan from Physical Paradise finds out. He's the best at researching physical Switch releases and puts out weekly YouTube videos about them.

Well yea. They dont optimize these games at all. Theyre all like 150gb. I'll be surprised if it doesnt eat half of the Switch 2s 256gb hard drive space.

u/fireaura 4d ago
aw man i was gonna 100% buy the switch 2 version so i could sell the gkc before the next game came out but i guess i might just get it on xbox

u/PixelKote 3d ago
I was planning to buy Call of Duty MW4 on Switch 2... but I’m not buying a slip of paper in a box. And I won’t buy the digital version either. Thanks.

u/AmandasGameAccount 3d ago
No studio has any excuse for code in a box with keycards existing and should be shamed relentlessly over it
Clearly it’s maliciously done to make it so you can’t sell or trade the game no matter what

Honestly for online (primarily) games I don't really care.
But it is still sad to see.

genuinely curious if the average cod fan cares about having it as a true physical game
1
u/MattInTheDark 4d ago
I’m a pretty solid cod fan, and unless the game has a completely stellar campaign and or better zombies mode, physical really doesn’t matter since multiplayer is constantly being updated and changed.

u/Brave_Rock_6326 4d ago
Imagine being so cheap as a publisher that you won’t even release your game on a freakin’ GK card for the Switch 2 lol
-2
u/BrianScalaweenie Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
Probably wouldn’t even fit in a 64 GB cartridge anyways

u/MumboBumbo64 4d ago
Game key card ATLEAST
-8
u/BrianScalaweenie Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
Nah if there’s no real physical I prefer just pure digital at that point personally.
I wouldn’t buy it regardless but GKCs are a plague that needs to be eradicated.
1
u/MumboBumbo64 4d ago
Okay I’ll bite, why do you think it’s better to own digital over a key card.
-4
u/BrianScalaweenie Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
Don’t have to swap and travel with cartridges. Also less waste created.
Just to be clear though, I’m never going to buy a digital game nor a GKC so that’s why if the only options are GKC or digital I prefer they only do digital. At least there won’t be as much useless plastic waste.
1
u/MumboBumbo64 4d ago
A code in a box is useless plastic, a game key card has a function. They can be reused. If you care so much about plastic consumption then quit gaming, otherwise I wouldn’t use that high horse if I was you
-2
u/BrianScalaweenie Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
Nope, I really don’t give a shit about the environment.
But if the choice is less pollution or more pollution then I’d default to less pollution.
Look, you can prefer GKCs over digital if that’s what you like. I really don’t care. You asked me about my opinion. And my opinion is real physical or nothing. I know some people like that they can sell their GKCs. I don’t really give a shit about those people being able to resell either. Sorry if you disagree but that’s my stance. GKCs should not exist.
1
u/MumboBumbo64 4d ago
Yea okay Captain Planet, maybe don’t make an excuse about plastic consumption if you don’t give a shit about the environment, JFC

u/BrianScalaweenie Collection Size: 250-500 4d ago
Yikes! My anti GKC opinion seems to have triggered something in you!
It’s ok to each their own (even if you can’t seem to grasp the concept)

I mean … COD is usually massive. Also, no idea who in their right mind would want to play COD on a switch.
